A retired Chancellor of a local university writes a column sometimes.
Here is his most recent one, on the LIV situation. What was interesting was the note that the PGA "board" must still approve the merger, and 5 players sit on the 10 member board.

Pga is going broke. All these golfers will be willing and ready to take saudi money if it looks like they where "forced" to take it.

Rumors where John Rahm was about to accept 200m from Liv.

I think we can all agree not to believe anything monahan says.

In the case of rahm, I doubt it but it doesn’t really matter.

What will be interesting to me at this point is what will happen with the liv guys because after this season, I don’t think that’s going to exist anymore. Assuming they’ll have a pay a portion back for the guys who got the money upfront or something along those lines. Will be interesting to see what the tour schedule looks like and how many events people will have to play etc.

I think liv will continue at least next year. I don't think the pga or Monahan will have nearly as much power as they are trying to spin now. Not sure why you don't think Rahm would take 2oom., he's closer to liv guys than pga and he was guaranteed to play all the majors the next 5 years or so.

Liv may but I really don’t see the point. It’s a complete flop from a viewership standpoint and now the saudis have what they want.

As far as rahm, how is he closer to the liv guys? He’s very close friends with multiple guys on both circuits. Reason why is because he never did it, even though he had ample time to do so, and if you hear him speak in interviews, he talks a whole lot about golf history, tradition and legacy. Doesn’t strike me as someone who would leave just for money based off that.

But do you really think it will be a flop once the saudis own the pga? They'll have the same marketing and tv contracts. We all know your stance but I do enjoy watching team formats and the out of the 10 guys I like watching 6 are on the liv tour.

A golf channel employee mentioned the rahm story. I doubt he'd just make that up being with all the hate they have fo liv

    Edited for more recent clarity:

According to dunne who brokered the deal, monahan will oversee the pga and liv. At the end of the season in November, monahan will evaluate if liv continues or folds. My guess is he folds it and takes some aspects of what he likes and adds those to the tour. Also, my guess is that for the board to approve this merger, monahan is going to have to agree to some concessions and with Rory as one of those members along with other pga tour players, guessing liv dissolving is going to be one of them.

I don’t know the writer but when people say things like “ a source” I’m pretty cynical. Could be true, may not be. I just find it hard to believe for reasons I posted earlier.

Do the LIV players keep the money that they got up front? Pay any of it back at some point? How does that work?

All things that are still be sorted out. My understanding too is that some guys like dj, Phil etc got all their money up front plus purse money. Other contracts were structured differently. Now all that is rumor since very very few people ever saw a contract.
