If nothing else, I just don’t want to be rude to the cashier at the grocery store who has to go home to her mother who has an underlying condition.

To search for links that say masks don’t matter is silly. The overwhelming amount of evidence and the general understanding according to the most widely respected sources say that they DO in fact matter. I’m not getting into a pissing match over that. There is more than enough evidence to say they help, and even if it’s just a little, why would you NOT do what helps.

I’d be ashamed of myself if I didn’t show other people this minimal amount of respect. How hard is it? Why would you whine like a child over this. Just act like an adult, even if it’s not fun to wear the stinkin’ mask in indoor public places.
I agree with all of this. I wear a mask when I go out. The exchange was prompted by a poster who said “ Can't be worse than the psychological damage caused by science denying fucks who caused this lockdown to last 8 months (and counting) when it could have been controlled in about 30 days by simply wearing a mask.”

People who hyperbolize make people on the other side hyperbolize, and conversations devolve into pissing matches.

Scientologists are a tiny minority of the population, as is the anti-mask crowd. You just may be on the wrong side of that analogy.

Go to a grocery store and look around. About 99% of the people wear a mask where I shop. It’s requested that it be 100%, but some people just can’t accept the world as it is today and be a good neighbor.

Well, the Gov of S. Dakota agrees with me: https://www.theblaze.com/news/kristi...n-mask-mandate

Yea, I know, I'm the only one that doesn't wear a mask while grocery shopping - I go twice a week, and can't recall seeing anyone else without a mask in months, .........… and yet...…… cases are on the rise in my city and state...….go figure....

I'll also point to my Hawaii analysis a few pages back.

C'mon people, at what point do we reach the definition of insanity?????????

No wonder she has the highest per capita death rate in the US

Don't judge everyone this way. My brother in law has epilepsy(also dyslexia, learning disabilities, etc.) and when he wears a mask for over 3 minutes he will start hyperventilating. It's in his head but he cannot help it. Yes we do the Kroger curbside pick up thing but sometimes we just need to go into the store. He will wear the mask but we all know that it is going to come off at some point.

My bad! I realize some people have legit reasons beyond “I don’t want to and you can’t make me!” I did not mean to imply that anyone for whom this creates real problems is “bad” in any way. Heck, I feel for anyone suffering from real conditions like this.

It’s the people who are just arrogant and selfish I have less tolerance for. Even if you don’t believe they help, I’d hope you’d be sensitive to the potential fears and concerns of the cashier.

    Dear Pro-Maskers,

How do you feel about the so-called experts, politicians and all the other vocal proponents of masks and shutdowns who force their mandates on you, but don't abide by their own rules? Why do you think, they think, they don't have to abide by their own rules? Do you think that maybe they're actually laughing at you, because they know they have you under their thumbs? Every time you blindly obey them they know they can turn up the heat and place even more restrictions on your rights and freedoms. They're taking you for suckers! Let's take a look at just a few examples:

    * Anthony Fauci famously sitting in the stands of a Washington Nationals game with people sitting on either side of him - without a mask.

    * Nancy Pelosi was caught getting her hair done in a salon that was closed to the public during the CA shutdowns - she also wasn't wearing a mask.

    * New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has been photographed on multiple occasions while not wearing a mask in public.

    * Democrat Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney was caught dining indoors at a Maryland restaurant - while his own constituents were prohibited from doing so.

    * CA Governor Gavin Newsom recently attended a birthday party with a dozen friends at the posh French Laundry restaurant, which violated his own virus rules.

    * Democrat Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot got a haircut during the lockdowns when none of her constituents were allowed to.

    * After last week's election Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was caught yelling through a bull horn at a street gathering - without a mask.

    * After last week's election Chuck Schumer was also caught on tape speaking to a crowd in the street - without a mask.

    * Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters has been busted for not wearing a mask in public.

    * CA Senator Dianne Feinstein was filmed walking through an airport without a mask.

    * CNN anchor, and extremely vocal mask proponent, Chris Cuomo, was seen out and about his neighborhood while he actually had Covid! He's also been seen not wearing a mask - at a restaurant no less.

    * New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio was busted for being outside and taking a walk in the park - defying his own stay at home mandate.

There are several other examples from lower profile Democrats: https://bergerpress.medium.com/how-a...s-49a74aa2eadc

Do you excuse all that, because they're authorities? Or because they're Democrats? Or hypocrisy doesn't matter to you? Maybe they, "The Elites", know it's all a crock of shit what they're force-feeding you. Maybe you like being taken for a sucker! Perhaps this infamous rant by Jim Morrison was meant for you:

Just because some people don't follow the rules, or occasionally don't wear the masks...doesn't make it "correct" to do those things.

England and Taiwan...island nations where entry can be controlled
    66 million vs 24 million
    52,000 deaths vs 7 deaths
Lockdowns and some mask wearing vs No lockdowns but 100% mask wearing.

There may be something to wearing masks.
...he went up late, and I was already up there.

Assuming your data is correct (you didn't provide any links), it all depends on when the closures occurred. My guess is that Taiwan shutdown travel much earlier than England - thus they were able to keep the Genie in the bottle.

I'll answer my own question - Taiwan was actually the first country in the world to begin screening travelers, and to shut down travel - this actually began before Wuhan itself went into lockdown.

So, no, mask use had absolutely nothing to do with the low number of deaths in Taiwan.

Additionally, as you can see in the photos in this article, not all Taiwanese wear masks: https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/21/asia/...ntl/index.html

Though this has nothing to do with my answer to your original assertion, I'll ask this: is the definition of a Covid death the same in Taiwan vs England vs USA????
