Hopefully whatever things Ohio has been doing will keep their death total from almost tripling in one week like Sweden's.
Where are you getting these data? According to Worldometer:
    - week of 4/4 to 4/10: 512 deaths
    - week of 4/11 to 4/17: 530 deaths

Not only are they flat on deaths, they remain flat on cases:
    - week of 4/4 to 4/10: 3554 new cases
    - week of 4/11 to 4/17: 3531 new cases

Sweden has not been “spiking” and has not tripled its death rate.

I understand your position being in New York, but the rest of the country is completely different.

It’s certainly possible to overreact on Ohio while underreacting in New York.

Why not ? They Still don't understand the rest of the country. Aside from Detroit maybe New Orleans, the rest of the country is fairing pretty well, health wise, compared to NY. Now economically the whole country is a mess because, the media in NYC, has scared the shit out of everyone. The US doesn't end west of NYC, in fact it could be argued that the
real country begins west of NY.

My bad. I was referencing the post of xavierj (see above) who said they went from 590 to 1500 deaths in one week.
If that was incorrect, I apologize for not checking the numbers before I commented.

Edit: using the website you referenced, they tripled in about 12 days; from 4/6 to 4/18 they went from 477 to 1,511. Again, I hope Ohio doesn't have that sort of increase in such a short time.

If you look at the trend bar graph you see Sweden has a wide range in daily deaths (or more likely daily reported deaths). So averaging across weeks presents a much better picture of what is going on. You just cherry picked 2 data points to fit a narrative. Do you work for the MSM?!?

Again, no spike, nothing tripled. We don’t need to fear being like Sweden, and should aspire to be like Sweden in government mandated shut downs.

I really wonder (based on your your prior comments) if there was anything our govt. at the federal or local level could do that you would deem overreacting? At the end of the day, all of the data is trending to this being less than the cataclysmic and apocalyptic event that was being predicted a month ago, from a health perspective.

Economically? the jury is still very much out.

    Whatever is your problem? MSM?
I was commenting on a sharp rise in deaths in Sweden. If I wanted to cherry pick a week, I would have picked a week at the beginning and said deaths have increased by a factor of 10. I was only commenting on a note from another poster.
I continue to hope the rise in deaths in Ohio does not follow the sharp rise in Sweden. You can look at your own site to see the graph of deaths in Sweden.

I totally understand the view of someone like MOR who is monitoring the hospital data as an indicator that Ohio should start opening back up. Based on the data, I think a measured reopening makes perfect sense with reasonable precautions and restrictions depending on risk factors. I cannot even fathom the need of some to quickly declare this has been an overreaction before it is even over. You are playing Monday morning quarterback and it's not even Monday.

We are mere weeks from the President saying we would lose 100,000-200,000 Americans. This certainly seems unlikely at this juncture, but the ultimate outcome is not guaranteed now, and it definitely wasn't guaranteed when the first shutdowns were put in place. You cannot reasonably have expected leaders to roll the dice with the lives of their constituents based on armchair skepticism of "experts".

Politicization runs deep. People on this board in Republican controlled states under a Republican President just can't help themselves but to find a way to blame the media or liberals. What did "the media in NYC" report that was untrue? What was your local media saying weeks ago?

This isn't the media's fault, this isn't Trump's fault, this isn't your governors fault. No one is benefitting from this, they are all doing the best they can and making mistakes/triumphs along the way.
