One has "freedom" to assume risk.
One does not have the right to risk others, by not wearing a mask around others in close proximity.
The Secret Service is known to be individuals who assume the risk of taking a bullet for the president.
I wonder if they ever thought he would risk their lives by exposing them to himself, staff, and thousands of unmasked rally goers.
Those guys aren't really "risking" their lives, though. Secret Service guys aren't going to die of Covid anymore than they're going to get struck by lightning.
Thank God some in the Supreme Court see the dangerous path we're heading down: https://thefederalistpapers.org/us/j...ctions-liberty
In response to STL and Paul - actually there are a lot of activities that we take part in that impact other lives. Driving for one! Hiking or mountain climbing - if you get lost or hurt on the trail or mountain, you put the lives of rescuers in jeopardy. There are many other examples.
Good grief, the Mayflower pilgrims, the Revolution era Patriots, the pioneers, and the men who stormed the Normandy beaches must be either crying or laughing at us for being a bunch of whiney-ass pussies.
I can't believe how people are so willing to give up their freedoms and rights. This is scary. What else are you willing to do, or not do, just because the government or some bureaucrat orders or tells you? How many normal Germans simply obeyed because they were told to do something by an authority?
Not a boomer - but the greatest lesson I learned from the 60s generation is to question authority. Today, there is zero questioning of authority - in fact, most of what I see is group think and blind obedience to authority. Too few people are questioning the data - too few people are not looking beyond what the mainstream media is spoon feeding them.
You might want to ask yourself why "Build Back Better" is a slogan used not only by Biden, but also by several world government organizations and actors.
Take this FWIW. Just heard someone on the radio talking about his COVID experience. He tested positive after a few symptoms. He felt better the next few days and went for a follow up test about a week after the first test. He still tested positive, which would be possible. He talked with the provider about this and was told that he’d be reported as a new case, even though he’d already been counted a week earlier.
If that’s accurate, how many are cases being over reported?

With all due respect, what is the point of this whole line of thinking? Does it make you guys feel better if some amount of the 10MM COVID cases and 243K deaths are overstated? This is an anecdote with a sample size of one, and quite frankly I know more people who probably had COVID and never got tested than likely false positives or 'double counted cases'.
What is the point of this, and what does it accomplish?
Here is a link to the weekly deaths (all causes). Notice the spike in April when COVID hit.
CDC Weekly All Cause Deaths
There is, however, some good news (if it holds up) is that as of October the number of 'excess' deaths that are likely attributable in some way to COVID, so our treatment seems to be improving dramatically (or the disease is mutating to become less virulent).
Thank you for perfectly demonstrating my points about "group think" and "blind obedience". I will also add:
30 years from now there will be libraries filled with books on the psychological damage done to children as a result of their parent's hysterical response to a virus that has virtually no impact on them. Your child has a far greater chance of dying in a car accident than dying of Covid.
I'm not sure what you think you "fixed", but yes, this is the hit-job. CNN (big surprise) and other left-wing media also picked up on it too. You would think they should have learned their lesson from Nick Sandman about character assassination.
Keep going, you're on to something.
Damage? Damage done by compiling and analyzing data? I thought we wanted to "followed the science". Heck, that person with the '80's sitcom character name just went all tourettes on XU Lou about denying science. Now you're concerned about damage done by science? Please, do explain what damage you speak of.
It's never been more clear that the AHA needs to be demolished.
Well, that is just not true.
The “whole fucking wold” is NOT wearing a mask. I see selfish, arrogant people at the grocery store who can’t act like a adult and put one on for 10-15 minutes for the sake of the people around them.
The virus continues, indeed. What would it look like without partial mask wearing? You cannot answer that, but I won’t be surprised if you make some shit up.
You fight this so fiercely, I have to wonder if you are not just trolling. You can find some links to fit your narrative, but the real world of science, not to mention common sense, disagrees. Even if they just MAY help, how can you argue against that? You “probably” won’t get into a car accident on the way to the store, so why wear a seatbelt?
I wear it to protect other people, not myself. I can’t see how people can argue against that. It’s just being a decent human being.
I have zero worry about COVID to my personal health, but I wear a mask when I’m in public because there is no downside to doing so. That being said, the statement that this would’ve been contained if all Americans had worn masks for the first 30 days is silly and has no scientific support.
Try your reading skills with that article I referenced. Then report back on this guy's science background. Anyone can compile "data". The use, or misuse, of such data comes with figuring out what the data say. That requires considerable training in statistics and if the data are related to a particular area, e.g. health and medicine, considerable training in that area as well. Your "scientist" by all accounts has neither. Posting shit to a blog does NOT make you competent to do scientific analysis.
Washington DC has had an inside and outside mask mandates for months now, is one of the most liberal/“FoLlow the ScienCe!” city in America and their cases shot up. For those who claim to follow the science, there sure are a lot of countries and cities with full mask mandates that aren’t doing too well. It’s almost as if this virus will rip through our population regardless.
So the long predicted surge is happening as we move indoors. Mask wearing slows the virus, nothing's going to stop it until we have a vaccine and even then only half the population wants to get it. What would the DC numbers be if nobody wore a mask? Double? Triple?

LOL - this is the 2nd time you've called me out thinking that I "make some shit up" - after providing authoritative links - like the CDC...
And again, I have to laugh at you for not considering the "science" or "common sense" when it comes to wearing masks at the grocery store. So let me post what "the science" actually says one more time for you (note the source is the CDC - is that good enough for you?):
Current guidance based on community exposure, for people exposed to people with known or suspected COVID-19 or possible COVID-19:
• Individual who has had close contact (< 6 feet)** for ≥15 minutes***
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...endations.html
"So where did that 15-minute part of the guideline come from? Gurley says it's based on earlier data from China on who was being infected and how infections occurred. "Even when they found lots and lots of very casual, quick contacts, that's not where they saw evidence of transmission," she says [Emily Gurley, an epidemiologist and contact-tracing expert at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health].
Instead, she says, infections were occurring when people had "meaningful" amounts of close contact – such as traveling, dining or living together – that had a higher probability of resulting in transmission. She says the 15-minute guideline is a way to help contact tracers quantify which types of interactions were long enough to be meaningful in this context."
https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsan...15-minute-rule
So, in short, the <6 feet, ≥15 minutes contacts just ain't happening in grocery stores (at least with me)....
Do you think the article you posted was new and groundbreaking? That’s the article that spawned the breakdown I posted. Did you read that? More importantly, did you review his work to form your own opinion, or did you just let the media’s slanderous hit job create your thoughts? I know the answer, and thank you for again proving my point.
As to Kyle’s qualifications, I am a scientist by training and practice, I’ve had rigorous statistics classes as part of my training, and I have read his work. Is it perfect? publishable? No. But he’s a critical, outside the box thinker with enough analytical skills to advance a concept. He is more than qualified for the entry level position. And you’re dead wrong about the need for “extensive training in that area”. Some of the best in their fields have learned on the job. And not that it really makes a difference but he does have qualifying professional experience beyond “being an Uber driver”. Funny that wasn’t mentioned.
Now, put on your critical thinking cap and ask yourself, “why would the media spend time smearing an entry level hire?”
I have no doubt the virus would have continued to spread, I just have to believe the rate of the spread could be contained to some degree. Even if it is by a small amount (which I doubt), it’s worth the small the small inconvenience. If nothing else, I just don’t want to be rude to the cashier at the grocery store who has to go home to her mother who has an underlying condition.
To search for links that say masks don’t matter is silly. The overwhelming amount of evidence and the general understanding according to the most widely respected sources say that they DO in fact matter. I’m not getting into a pissing match over that. There is more than enough evidence to say they help, and even if it’s just a little, why would you NOT do what helps.
I’d be ashamed of myself if I didn’t show other people this minimal amount of respect. How hard is it? Why would you whine like a child over this. Just act like an adult, even if it’s not fun to wear the stinkin’ mask in indoor public places.
Common Sense. Most of the expert medical advice currently available suggests that mixing the coronavirus and large crowds is not a good idea. Seems to bear out with Sturgis, WH parties and secret service infections from rallies to name a few. Look for more with the maskless rally today.
I agree with all of this. I wear a mask when I go out. The exchange was prompted by a poster who said “ Can't be worse than the psychological damage caused by science denying fucks who caused this lockdown to last 8 months (and counting) when it could have been controlled in about 30 days by simply wearing a mask.”
People who hyperbolize make people on the other side hyperbolize, and conversations devolve into pissing matches.
Scientologists are a tiny minority of the population, as is the anti-mask crowd. You just may be on the wrong side of that analogy.
Go to a grocery store and look around. About 99% of the people wear a mask where I shop. It’s requested that it be 100%, but some people just can’t accept the world as it is today and be a good neighbor.
Well, the Gov of S. Dakota agrees with me: https://www.theblaze.com/news/kristi...n-mask-mandate
Yea, I know, I'm the only one that doesn't wear a mask while grocery shopping - I go twice a week, and can't recall seeing anyone else without a mask in months, .........… and yet...…… cases are on the rise in my city and state...….go figure....
I'll also point to my Hawaii analysis a few pages back.
C'mon people, at what point do we reach the definition of insanity?????????
The Blaze again? Really?
North Dakota Gov. just ordered masks
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...em/6237635002/
Don't judge everyone this way. My brother in law has epilepsy(also dyslexia, learning disabilities, etc.) and when he wears a mask for over 3 minutes he will start hyperventilating. It's in his head but he cannot help it. Yes we do the Kroger curbside pick up thing but sometimes we just need to go into the store. He will wear the mask but we all know that it is going to come off at some point.
My bad! I realize some people have legit reasons beyond “I don’t want to and you can’t make me!” I did not mean to imply that anyone for whom this creates real problems is “bad” in any way. Heck, I feel for anyone suffering from real conditions like this.
It’s the people who are just arrogant and selfish I have less tolerance for. Even if you don’t believe they help, I’d hope you’d be sensitive to the potential fears and concerns of the cashier.
Dear Pro-Maskers,
How do you feel about the so-called experts, politicians and all the other vocal proponents of masks and shutdowns who force their mandates on you, but don't abide by their own rules? Why do you think, they think, they don't have to abide by their own rules? Do you think that maybe they're actually laughing at you, because they know they have you under their thumbs? Every time you blindly obey them they know they can turn up the heat and place even more restrictions on your rights and freedoms. They're taking you for suckers! Let's take a look at just a few examples:
* Anthony Fauci famously sitting in the stands of a Washington Nationals game with people sitting on either side of him - without a mask.
* Nancy Pelosi was caught getting her hair done in a salon that was closed to the public during the CA shutdowns - she also wasn't wearing a mask.
* New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has been photographed on multiple occasions while not wearing a mask in public.
* Democrat Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney was caught dining indoors at a Maryland restaurant - while his own constituents were prohibited from doing so.
* CA Governor Gavin Newsom recently attended a birthday party with a dozen friends at the posh French Laundry restaurant, which violated his own virus rules.
* Democrat Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot got a haircut during the lockdowns when none of her constituents were allowed to.
* After last week's election Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was caught yelling through a bull horn at a street gathering - without a mask.
* After last week's election Chuck Schumer was also caught on tape speaking to a crowd in the street - without a mask.
* Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters has been busted for not wearing a mask in public.
* CA Senator Dianne Feinstein was filmed walking through an airport without a mask.
* CNN anchor, and extremely vocal mask proponent, Chris Cuomo, was seen out and about his neighborhood while he actually had Covid! He's also been seen not wearing a mask - at a restaurant no less.
* New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio was busted for being outside and taking a walk in the park - defying his own stay at home mandate.
There are several other examples from lower profile Democrats: https://bergerpress.medium.com/how-a...s-49a74aa2eadc
Do you excuse all that, because they're authorities? Or because they're Democrats? Or hypocrisy doesn't matter to you? Maybe they, "The Elites", know it's all a crock of shit what they're force-feeding you. Maybe you like being taken for a sucker! Perhaps this infamous rant by Jim Morrison was meant for you:

Just because some people don't follow the rules, or occasionally don't wear the masks...doesn't make it "correct" to do those things.
England and Taiwan...island nations where entry can be controlled
66 million vs 24 million
52,000 deaths vs 7 deaths
Lockdowns and some mask wearing vs No lockdowns but 100% mask wearing.
There may be something to wearing masks.
I'll answer my own question - Taiwan was actually the first country in the world to begin screening travelers, and to shut down travel - this actually began before Wuhan itself went into lockdown.
So, no, mask use had absolutely nothing to do with the low number of deaths in Taiwan.
Additionally, as you can see in the photos in this article, not all Taiwanese wear masks: https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/21/asia/...ntl/index.html
Though this has nothing to do with my answer to your original assertion, I'll ask this: is the definition of a Covid death the same in Taiwan vs England vs USA????
