UPDATE: The “leader sister” now has a friend who is apparently brain dead in an Orlando hospital. The leader sister has her shots started, and the DIL starts tomorrow with her first shot. LOVE the DIL but not fond of the whole follower mentality. Glad they were able to adapt. Love her even more for that ability to pivot in the face of the obvious.
Yes, data still matters, but no doubt, the mask nazis will deny reality once again:

I'm in Orlando right now, it's a cluster-fuck with COVID patients, went to the ED today for a consult and running max capacity with people being seen in portable beds in the hallways as an "observation" type of unit, I think it's something along the lines of 118/162 beds in the hospital are COVID positive, all elective surgeries (which unfortunately includes procedures like mastectomies for breast cancer) are on hold, they're floating the surgical/anesthesia support staff to different areas to help out any way they can, and there's been some absolute horror stories I've heard in passing, so honestly not surprised, but I do give condolences, it's tough to stomach some of this stuff.
Gotta say, I do give people credit when they are able to change their opinion on something they once held, I don't enjoy when it's something serious like what happened above, but I think it kind of plays into my point about it not setting in until it's real to your situation. Glad to hear the family members decided to go through with the vaccination and that they find the benefits outweigh the risk in their situations.
Well that’s promising and logical. Thanks for sending. We knew it was a matter of time when effectiveness would wane due to the new variants/strains show up.
Pretty soon we’ll have flu shot like efficacy with covid shots which is still very helpful. However based off this real world data, looks like we still have some pretty strong numbers on the Delta front.
My favorite line from the article, “It would, however, be “completely irresponsible” to deliberately try to get infected after getting your second vaccine, because there is a small chance you’d end up in hospital, the study lead Professor Sarah Walker said.” Hmm…I guess there are some idiots out there that you have to put in the disclaimer.
I went grocery shopping for some hard to find stuff today. I hit two Whole Foods, a Publix and a Kroger. Probably about 85% back to wearing a mask voluntarily, except at Kroger where there is a sign saying they are mandatory (so it was more like 95%). A big swing from where we were not too long ago when masks were rare. I don’t love it, but it’s not exactly difficult to do.
When, exactly? In the beginning? More toward the middle (to date)? Or more recently? The point is, the “best knowledge” changes constantly. I’d feel stupid if I bought into one line of thinking and spent my time endorsing that. I go with the odds and play it as safe as possible, within reason. A lot of info saying all kinds of things. I don’t trust any of them completely.
So you acknowledge you have no answer. Fine with me. Plenty of people on both sides of the aisle. I admit I don’t know what is “the truth” about this issue. It evolves, and I hope I continue to evolve and adapt. I haven’t “chosen a side” as many seem to have done, because quite frankly that seems like a stupid approach to me when there is so much more yet to learn.
But to say “Lookup the when on your own because frankly it doesn't matter” sounds like you’ve decided to be closed minded about a subject that is constantly changing. All good, you be you. But, if it doesn’t matter, why did you bring it up? Timing seems like a critical element in figuring out this pandemic.
No 82. I gave you an answer. You don't have to like it but Fauci did write they don't work. It doesn't matter because the man has been feckless and mostly wrong about everything important his whole career. Including funding GOF research in China after being told not to. I'm not taking a side and you don't need a PHD to know a virus will pass right through a cloth mask. Go build a chain link fence to keep the bees out and put on your mask like a good little citizen. I don't care but stop expecting others to care or just to it to make others feel good like their making a difference.

How many jabs are you willing to get for a virus with a 98+% survival rate?
You gave AN answer. You did not give THE answer to the question that was asked. So, in other words, it was worthless keystrokes. You go be “a good little citizen” yourself, while telling yourself you know everything you need to know to protect yourself and those around you.
I have no such arrogance. Have a great weekend.
Lame question and incredibly short sighted. Survival rate is not the only thing that matters. Yet even if it was, the Flu has a hell of a survival rate but still get a flu shot every year. If there was a common cold shot I’d get “jabbed” every time I needed to avoid that crap. Maybe you enjoy getting sick, I sure don’t. Do I need a booster right now, nah probably not but if I end up needing one once a year to avoid that shit again, sign me up.
