The fact remains that the dems and the pubs could have both fixed the situation we are currently in but in both cases, they chose not to.

Dem and Republican leadership a year or so ago could have pushed aside both Biden and trump. The pubs could have ended trump for good after the “red wave” became a trickle in ‘22 mainly due to his candidates losing almost every race. The dems could have just privately told Biden look dude thank you, but you’re done.

Which Republicans could have pushed aside Trump? The Republican establishment did everything in their power to brush Trump aside in 2016, and he absolutely embarrassed them. There's nothing the Republican party can do to free themselves of Trump short of getting new party members, because a solid majority of its current party members love him.

Well, not everyone can make $130K for not having sex. That's pretty special.

Seems pretty pedestrian in the age of OnlyFans.

After '22, they could have done it. I seriously doubt that a solid majority of Republicans love him. I think they tolerate him, because at this point in time, its political suicide not to, but a year and a half ago it could have been done. Why they didn't do it, I have no idea...they had an excuse built in after the midterms, his candidates performed horribly. Maybe they thought the american people weren't this dumb to nominate him again and so they figured it would just naturally work itself out (like office space).

How could they have gotten rid of him a year and a half ago? I mean, the campaign for the nomination started a year ago, and Trump immediately crushed DeSantis, who is basically the #2 Republican cult hero nationally. He thought he might be #1 but was immediately put in his place.

I agree with most of this, but the answer to the question is no one wanted to risk the political backlash within their own party that would have undoubtedly come with ousting him. They would have been labeled RENOs.

I hate to keep pointing to the other side of the isle, but the Dems could have gotten rid of Joe Biden. In fact I thought that was the entire plan. He'd be a one-term president after they decided (for whatever reason) he had the best chance of beating Trump in 2020. Yet, he's running again. Why? He is literally the only person serving in any sort of public office anywhere in the country that Trump would have any chance of beating. Yet, he's the one that's running. I'm not quite sure if Dog-Catchers are elected, but if they are, then any Democratic dog-catcher would have been a better choice.

It blows my mind how stupid the Democrats are.

It easily could have happened, if the republicans had come up with a solid plan. However, just like in '16, they had no plan, and had something like 15 candidates fighting each other, with no one going directly at Trump from the onset. No one attacked him, and it was there to do so. Lost in' 20, Lost the house, lost the Senate, lost midterms.

Should have put all fundraising to one or at most two candidates, immediately, and that candidate should have gone after Trump, immediately. It could have been done, but as we have seen the republicans are very lost on how to do much of anything of anything at this point except infight.

I do blame Biden for this as well of course. If he had not been such a horrible President, Trump wouldn't have gotten even a sniff.

I'm going to have to agree to disagree with you there. If Trump was able to absolutely pulverize DeSantis of all people IN FLORIDA of all places, there was no path to dislodging Trump. The membership demanded it (for whatever misguided reason).

Our problem is we have two candidates who are past their prime, and both parties failed to support good successors.

But, every incumbent since Nixon has run for a second term. Hard to overcome that built in advantage to the current office holder.
And I guess hard to persuade them to step aside for someone else.
