I got a little clarification. As suspected, one buddy’s daughter had “just left the area”. The other two surprised me. That couple I know thru a good friend. He ran into some other people last night who saw it and confirmed. The report was you could hear the trees creaking for a while. It got really bad and Debra went up and “punched” some guy in the shoulder to get him out of his chair. His chair got crushed as she pulled him away.
Their friends are all suggesting passes for life, which might trickle down my way some year, so that’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it!

Guess we know now why Koepka prefers those 3 round tourneys.

That is remarkable.
The four things I remember about my trip there, in no order, are:
1. The fact that you cannot appreciate how hilly the place is watching it on television;
2. The even more incredible fact that weeds don't even bother to show up there, as they know they don't have a chance inside the fence;
3. How damn hot it was the time I went; and
4. Best of all, the tradition of selling pimento cheese sandwiches for the same price they sold them when Jack won his first jacket.
It's a wonderful bucket list experience, so long as a tree doesn't fall on your head.X A V I E R

TV does not capture the terrain, AT ALL. It’s absolutely incredible.
I crossed it off, like my one (Bills) Super Bowl. I’d go again if it fell in my lap, but I don’t “need” it again.
Actually, it is a LOT like a Super Bowl. All the private jets fly in, the important people get off and do their thing. For some reason that doesn’t matter to me. It’s The Masters! A lot of old southern families still pass this event down over generations. It’s unique.
I wish I had done the Indy 500 and the Kentucky Derdy while at X. Bucket list, and my bar then was low and easy to cross.

I've been there twice, once for a Monday practice round and once for a Saturday round. I agree with everything you said except about the weeds. I actually saw one in the pine straw! Damn near called a groundskeeper to complain.
I have a couple more observations. One is how efficiently everything is run, form the pro shop to the concessions to even the bathrooms. The other is how unusual it is to be able to place your chair (we sat by the 16th green both times), put your stuff on it and walk the grounds (my stuff included a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff from the shop), then walk the grounds and come back to your chair and your stuff. Quite remarkable really in this day and age.Xavier always goes to the NCAA tournament...Projecting anything less than that this season feels like folly--Eamonn Brennan, ESPN (Summer Shootaround, 2012)

Been able to attend as a “Patron” twice, both for the Saturday round-once with my father. Just an amazing experience.
My five points:
-A good friend of mine is a Long Term Member at Augusta Country Club which bumps up adjacent to Augusta National. I’ve played Augusta CC a couple of times. The 8th green/ 9th tee at Augusta CC overlooks the 12th green/13th tee at the National and adjacent to Rae’s Creek, which also runs through the Country Club. You get an amazing panoramic view of 13 from that green. The most beautiful hole in golf IMO.
-Until you get there and see/walk the course, you do not understand how hilly the topography is there. Until there are true 3D TV’s you never will. It is a helluva walk for those players. The elevation changes on 10 & 11 are significant.
-Augusta, except for the areas around The National and the Country Club is a pretty dumpy town. Washington Road along which the National is located is your typical fast food/cheap hotel strip. The town is not impressive at all despite the heavenly haven that CBS makes the National grounds out to be.
- Just beyond the fence, and azaleas that hide it, by the 13th green over to 14 is a very low income area with borderline slums. It is NOT an attractive neighborhood. This is where, in the old days of the Masters, the caddies supplied by the National to the players lived. You still have to have a caddie to play the course if you are a Member/Guest and I suspect that that adjacent neighborhood is still where they come from.
-Augusta National is only open to Member play in certain select months in the spring and fall. Depending on conditions, you can play in Late February, the first week in March, then course closed. Then you get the rest of April after the Tournament, and most of May. When it gets hot, course closes because it’s cool weather grass that burns out in the summer. 13 looks all browned out in July. Then you usually can play Late September through and into early December depending on Frost. They will never mess around with any play that will screw up their baby.Last edited by Masterofreality; 04-10-2023 at 08:42 AM.

My former boss is a member there now. I actually saw him on television during yesterday's round as Rahm was approaching the clubhouse.
He's from Rutledge, GA originally. Sherman and Company actually went through his ancestor's town and you can imagine what happened then.
Anyway, he calls me one day while I'm slaving away in my office and in his Southern drawl he says, "ASH LEEE, yua'll nevah guess who just waulked past me." He proceeds to tell me it was Jack Welch (GE). He bumped into him in the locker room there after playing a round.
Bill also is a member at Oakmont, where he was the President in 2007 when Angel Cabrera won the U.S. Open there. Bill carried a 3-Handicap at OCC then. Great guy and a very good golfer.
Great point about the seasonal play there, MOR. And also good points about the town and surrounding area. Not exactly a destination resort spot.X A V I E R

Good stuff DASH! Pretty good twosome of Aug National & Oakmont.
I played Oakmont once. It’s hilarious how the members are fiercely proud of how difficult it is. It is almost like they are into BDSM and how their enjoyment of the round is directly proportional to how badly the course beats them up! :-)"I Got CHAMPIONS in that Lockerroom!" -Stanley Burrell

MOR, that is exactly right about Oakmont.
My former in laws are members there and so I spent a lot of time there between them and my former boss.
It is said, and I believe it is a fact that the membership prefers Stimpmeter readings at around 14 for the putting surfaces. They're batshit crazy. They actually have to slow them down for USGA events! Lee Trevino claimed every time he two-putted at Oakmont, he knew he was passing somebody on the leaderboard!X A V I E R
