Strange little aside, but on my birthday next month I turn 62 and the school board portion of the tax bill goes away. Neighbors tell us it’s about 2/3 of the tax bill so we’ll save over $5k. Not a bad BDay present.
I don’t mind paying for education. In fact, it’s one of the best things I can pay for, IMO. I guess they get everybody to pay at some point, then they just make the numbers work.

We often had the kids in private school. We paid the non-Catholic rate even though we were Catholic because the excess went to those in need of tuition assistance. They needed it more than we did. Never resented a single penny. Many of our kids friends could not have gone there without some help.
Your taxes are also paying for police, firemen, etc but I was very surprised education amounted to 2/3 of our property tax. Then you think of all the brick and mortar, teachers, staff, school bus drivers, etc and I guess that’s about right.
