I'm in the PPE business. There will be a shortage of essential products: respiratory masks, disposable gloves, goggles and face protection for the next 6-12 months. You can't increase demand by 30-40% and expect production to be able to match that. We are seeing an increase in products being imported from China primarily.......and those are being consumed without any hesitation. So, "waiting" until we have enough PPE to open certain business is problematic at best.

The problem with wearing masks is how the CDC rolled out their initial assessment on doing so. For over a month when the pandemic started they said:

They don’t offer significant protection from germs, the most effective models need special fitting in order to work, regular people don’t typically wear them correctly, they’ll give people a false sense of security and cause them to be lax about hand-washing and social distancing.

Now they want us to wear them so we can reopen our economy (interesting shift). I truly believe the CDC is operating on their best intentions, but also understand why many people have been very skeptical about this whole process.

Yeah. That was stupid. I think they were basically just trying to keep people from hording surgical and N95 masks so they intentionally understated the effectiveness. It confuses the message though, and is a public policy mistake, IMHO. I continue to think that having everyone wear masks (even if just cloth masks) in certain higher-risk situations has to offer SOME level of protection. We should still wash hands, avoid touching our faces, and practice social distancing to the extent possible.

Some people are stupid, and very literal, though. For example I keep seeing people walking around my neighborhood alone with face masks on. I'm not really sure what the point of that could be. You are outside and alone.

My understanding is that wearing a mask may help ME a little bit to avoid the virus, but it is far more likely to prevent me from giving it to someone else. For that reason I wear one when I go somewhere crowded, most likely the grocery store. I feel I owe that to the the other people in the store, especially the cashiers and the rest of the staff.

I too wonder about the people wearing masks alone by themselves. I see people driving alone in their cars wearing masks! WTF? That reminds me of a girl growing up who would put on her flippers, mask and snorkel BEFORE walking to the neighborhood pool!

Hold on there. Are you saying I shouldn't drink this Clorox?

The only thing I can think of that might make sense for the people driving alone in their cars with masks on is that they may have just left the store and don't want to touch their face to remove the mask until they can get home and wash their hands. Outside of that I have no ideas.

Yeah the regular surgical mask is most effective for preventing you from spreading it. Then N95's are effective for preventing you from getting it.

And if we had enough N95's my guess is that they would be telling us all to wear them.

Ohio has walked back the face covering mandate to now a suggestion for businesses reopening. With all this face mask talk, when will they require people to wear helmets while driving? Since hundreds of thousands of people receive brain injuries every year from car accidents.

Mayo Clinic advises Pence of their policy that everyone wears masks in advance of his visit.

Pence visits Mayo Clinic. Visits doctors and patients, without wearing a mask.

    Nice job.
