The players won't be here tomorrow. I can't keep track of them like some can in the portal threads. They're almost like day (year) laborers.

The constant is Xavier...well, maybe Dana's too. See you there in May if you can make it.
I’ll let you know about May. Thanks.

Marion is renovated and now a bed and breakfast (rentable)! Times have changed.

No doubt this was hashed/re-hashed somewhere on here a while back, but maybe someone can help me out.

A guard who signed with us last November (Nyk Lewis) has now been picked up by VCU.
I see where we "let him out" of his national letter of commitment, I guess because Miller left...but not really sure.

What would have happened if we hadn't let him out (other than maybe a dissatisfied recruit)?
Do we still do those letters and do they mean anything ?
...he went up late, and I was already up there.

I don’t know to what degree it’s “binding”, but an LOI just simply will never be enforced. You don’t want to be that team / program that forced a player to honor the LOI. If you do that, and “force” a recruit to play for you (or said another way, prohibit them from playing elsewhere), it’s gonna be used against you forever. I’ve not heard of one instance where a commitment release was not granted.

But more importantly, why did Nyk Lewis end up at VCU? I thought we had a future BE level PG when we landed him. He’s going to VCU?

And further off topic…..how many thousands of hours have assistant coaches spent trying to find young guys to recruit in the past? Why do that at all now? Just wait till the portal opens then start the process. By the time players are in the portal we already know how their skills translate to College ball. Why travel to some HS gym to watch a guy. Just get him a year later from
    Valpo, Evansville, or wherever.

I would think staffs start looking at film of potential portal prospects around Jan 1. HS kids probably get a look at the big shoe camps in the summer, but nothing like in the past.

About Nyk Lewis and VCU, good question, and who knows? He certainly would have seemed to have an opportunity at X to step in to plenty of minutes. VCU pretty close tohome and comparable NIL? Likes the coaches? Wonder where he’ll be next year.

Briefly back to my interest in the LOI's. I understand you don't want someone who doesn't want to be there...but wasn't there a rule that after an athlete signed an LOI, then other schools couldn't contact him? (unless he went in the portal I guess)

(It's possible I've had too much bourbon)
...he went up late, and I was already up there.
