Think it was Ohio State's AD that was saying football recruits are asking for $5k to just COME VISIT now, NIL is ridiculously lucrative. I mean I get it, these boosters that are worth $300 million or so throwing down $1 million is literally the equivalence of $900 for someone making $300k, which makes it seem much more palatable. I'd donate $900 to NIL (if I had the means at the moment) if it meant we'd pull in better recruits... it's just that some of these damn schools have a shit load of people worth $300 million doing so, think about places like Texas A&M, just pure oil money in Texas and football crazed.. the numbers are absolutely ridiculous and the lack of regulation makes it a wild wild west scenario, but honestly it doesn't shock me too much.

Speaking of ridiculous, this is ridiculously crazy. Not on you of course. A recruit is asking 5k just to visit? They already get a free trip with accommodations.
Based off the acronym NIL, how is this even possible? Well I guess they do post that stupid picture of them in a uniform. Hope it’s worth 5k now. Unfortunately this is way way too far gone!

Some people have said that NIL won’t have any impact and that we should just relax and wait to see.
I’m not one of those some people. But there are some close by….

They may be asking for it, doesn’t mean they are getting it. All NIL and the transfer portal seems to be doing is leveling the playing field in college football. That’s a good thing and I’m here for it. The past 20 years has been awful for parity. Take a look at college football today. You can legitimately make a case for about twenty teams to win the whole thing this year. You haven’t been able to say that at even this early point in the season for decades.
Btw I’d need 5k to visit that shit school too.Last edited by Xville; 09-22-2023 at 09:35 PM.

I mean yeah of course not everybody is getting it, but a high 5* recruit that has offers from Texas A&M, Alabama, etc. is definitely gonna get the $5k to visit, because there's a significant chance that one of these schools WILL give it to him. I agree though, the official visit everything is basically taken care of paid for, and you get 5 of those to choose wisely, unofficial is a bit different since its on your own dime, so maybe some recruits game the system that way? I'm not sure, NIL is kind of a mess.
Do agree that it's good for parity though, I'm interested to see if the NCAA's transfer rule tightening will have more of an effect, UNC is pretty pissed off about the Tez situation, but the NCAA has to make a stand to not look spineless. I much rather have it like it is now, actually makes the idea of expanding the play-offs viable opposed to the same old teams. Genuinely I have zero idea who the best team or best two teams in college football is this year and I can't remember the last time where I questioned it. Totally agree with needing $5k to visit OSU as well though, screw that place lol.

If NIL money is to pay the players for the use of their name, image, or likeness, how does getting paid $5K just to visit a school involve using their NIL? Would the school publishing a story about the visit qualify?
Sent from my iPad using TapatalkGolf is a relatively simple game, played by reasonably intelligent people, stupidly.
