I think seatbelt laws are the wrong analogy, instead it is like a speed limit. Sure my car can go 120mph on 71N, and that is a personal choice I make, but at some point my stupidity impacts other people, so as a society we decided to put a limit on my stupidity in degradation of my freedom to drive how I want.

The kid can sit wherever they would like if my kid is (they are) vaccinated. My kids won’t catch the disease they been vaccinated against.

The problem is some kids can't get vaccinated. That is why they are required for those who can.

Some states have no exemptions other than medical, not religious or any others, I think that is the way to go, otherwise the anti-vaxxers just say it's against their religion.

Well the good news is that by the end of the month, 35% of the US population will be vaccinated. Heard immunity should start around 30%. By the end of May we should be close to 45% - 50%.

Where did you get 30% from?

I thought it was closer to 70% and just looked it up and found this from Johns Hopkins:

"What we know about coronavirus so far suggests that, if we were really to go back to a pre-pandemic lifestyle, we would need at least 70% of the population to be immune to keep the rate of infection down (“achieve herd immunity”) without restrictions on activities. But this level depends on many factors, including the infectiousness of the virus (variants can evolve that are more infectious) and how people interact with each other."

I hope to get back to Sarasota, FL in 5-10 years, at least most of the year. The wife turns 60 this summer and we are spending a few weeks in the NC mountains this summer. Seeking heat relief during the summers, best of both worlds!

Don’t get me wrong I all for everyone getting vaccinated but there is a big problem with forcing someone to take a needle against their will. I don’t have to agree but it’s there right to just say no.

I don’t put a lot of things in my body but others can to their hearts’ content or tolerance. Why am I craving bacon???

Thank you for chiming in. It was my understanding that herd immunity had to be north of 70%, as well. Hopefully, we continue heading to that territory quickly.

I get that but requiring them for public school isnt forcing anyone to get it, the choice is still theirs, but they may need to seek schooling elsewhere. Homeschool, private school that doesnt require it etc.

People without kids pay school board taxes and people who send their kids to private schools pay taxes, so no. It benefits a community to have educated, employable people, so that’s something.
