Taiwan did react quickly. They had a national plan in place, universal health care, and a homogeneous population that all made control easier.
Some of those would have helped us.
I have no way of knowing if the covid death reporting is the same. The stark reality of the difference in numbers probably means any statistical differences are meaningless.

Edit: in regards to the picture of people in Taipei, if New York had only one suspected case since April, they could probably relax mask wearing also.

Please, explain this: "universal health care, and a homogeneous population that all made control easier"

    ...this will be real interesting...

Again, just to clarify your original assertion - masks had no impact in the Covid results in Taiwan whatsoever. Zero.

    52,000 deaths vs 7 deaths
Lockdowns and some mask wearing vs No lockdowns but 100% mask wearing.

There may be something to wearing masks.
Just don't forget in comparing geographies that the pacific rim has been demonstrated to have pre-existing immunity to COVID.

We are all trying to figure out a way through this with the least amount of collateral damage.
It's absolutely an unfair stereotype. And for that, I apologize. As previously mentioned (by myself and others), I have deep concerns about the "wide scale" impacts of those that choose "personal freedoms" and "liberty" over the overall well being of society. I see a "love of country", and "patriotism" as a practice of caring for your neighbor's well being, even if it's as simple as wearing a mask, or putting off a festival for a year.

But, my post was over the top (and too emotional), thank you for calling me out. We all need that sometimes. Repped.

Thank you good sir. I appreciate it. Repped.

I voted for Rand Paul in the 2016 Primaries. He was working in the inner cities, and I loved his all encompassing political focus. There were two candidates I absolutely could not vote for in the general election (Republican)... one was Ted Cruz, the other was Donald Trump. I don't think I could vote for a Republican again.

I’d like to think that a good Republican option would change that. I don’t really care either way, just looking for the best option. We have recently suffered for lack of even decent options. I’d like to be fiscally responsible, but apparently that has gone out the window. Strange times.....

    Groundbreaking publication just released: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/ful...00891620974755

Blood samples from a 2019 Italian study on lung cancer were recently analyzed for CV19 antibodies. Samples collected as early as September 2019 (earliest of the study) showed presence. This means that either CV19 was around for a lot longer than we knew (as the authors speculate) or another virus is causing generation of the same antibodies. Either way, this lends a much greater context for the seriousness of the pandemic. This is not a pre-print, but a peer reviewed, published study. Note only the abstract is available - I'd love to read the whole thing but am too cheap to cough up $41.50.

Now if the news media had interest in presenting news and informing the public, this would be a headliner story. If their interest is to maintain a narrative, crickets. If anyone hears this reported, let me know...

Sounds like a good reason not to shut down the economy. It hurts the poor much more than those better off. As an aside does anyone else notice a correlation between the no maskers and the 2A folks ? I don't mean folks who have a couple firearms. I mean the "If I want an arsenal in my house, by God, I have that right, don't tell me what to do ".
