    That doesn't look good.
I wonder how they got it down to around 100/day in the summer. And they have 30% more people than we do.
We've never been below 500/day running average since March and now are near 1000.
This could be a really tough winter.
...he went up late, and I was already up there.

Our 7 day average through yesterday is 890. The EU has about 100 million more people than the US.

Hopefully we stay more or less level on this through the coming months. If that happens, it might be that we're better off doing that than having steep shocks like Europe. But who the hell knows with this thing.

I think college basketball this season is a pipedream.

For some reason my kids' school is moving from full virtual to a hybrid model on Monday. They didn't want to start school in person when NJ was reporting 300-400 cases per day, but now that we are at 2K it makes perfect sense to get them back in school.

Our school district has found that even when community spread rises, there's zero or virtually zero spread at school. So as community spread increases, the kids (and faculty/staff) are likely safer when school is in session (assuming good masking/distancing/hygiene protocols).

My kids have been in school since august, yes there have been a few covid cases...you quarantine the sick, and the ones who had direct contact, and move on.

My BIL is sending his college age daughter to France for a semester (French major of some sort). I’m shocked. He’s a doctor, and his wife is a doctor. Sadly, the wife has stage 4 cancer, so part of it is they are afraid to have people around, coming and going after being exposed to who knows what. What might be fine for the daughter might kill the wife.

I don’t like to judge unless it’s egregiously bad behavior. I don’t know what to make of this, but just praying for the best for everyone.

115k cases. We did it! We beat our record.

As for sending the kid to France, I'm not sure what difference it makes. We have Covid here, and they have Covid there. If you're going to go through a pandemic, I guess you may as well go through it in France.

One thing to consider in trying to figure out spikes in cases and incidence is the mutations this virus has had. It’s been some time since mutation analysis has been released but the virus has mutated several times that results in increased transmissibility. Perhaps the virus is more transmissible but less deadly? And certainly our treatments are better. Early on we reserved remdesivir for the sickest of the sick. If their O2 sats dropped we freaked out and treated it like typical ARDS. Currently, we can use remdesivir in pretty much anyone hospitalized, and the threshold for using a vent is greater. This should continue to decrease mortality.

In Ohio the trend is still poor though, and it is getting dicey in some regions that don’t have the greatest access to healthcare. Mortality rate still varies too widely by geographic region.

Also....If choosing between the US and France, I would have a tough time choosing France.
