And, on top of that, we like to claim Dayton isn't our rival. It's just that the one home game against us is their Super Bowl. Well, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee aren't really Kentucky's big rivals either. But, when Kentucky comes to town it's a huge deal. It's the biggest home game of the year. It's their basketball super bowl. Same with Kansas when they go on the road. Same with UNC and Duke when they go on the road. Those are ALL games that are supercharged with emotion. Every team they play gets up for them the way Dayton used to get up for us. In fact, I don't remember the last time Kentucky (with the exception of Louisville) or Kansas lost on the road, and didn't have the court stormed on them. Same with Duke.

Yeah, Indiana and Kentucky no longer play, but that's precisely my point. The game was good for both programs. Is either program better off because they no longer play?? The last time the two met in the regular season, Kentucky lost in what was one of the highest rated regular season games of the year. But, they still won the national title. So, they were somehow able to overcome the emotional load that came with playing the game.

No one that has cut back on the number of highly charged emotional games is better off because of it. The majority of games in November and December are boring games played in half empty arenas. There needs to be more emotion during this part of the season, not less of it.
I'm sorry, but this could not be further from the truth. The raw emotion of the Xavier-dayton game is right up there with any of the ones you mentioned there and dayton hates us more than Duke and UNC hate each other. I would also put the Crosstown shootout, Xavier-uc up against UNC-Duke in terms of raw emotion and how charged the games are. I am also speaking from experience having been to just about every Xavier-uc and Xavier-dayton game home and away over the last 20 years or so and have also been to several ACC games including UNC-Duke. The venom spewed at ud arena ranks up there with anybody.

I think the difference is the A-10 used to be a much better conference. I mean when we joined, you had Va. Tech, a solid UMASS, GW, Temple, Rhode Island and every once in a while dayton was okay. Then we added Richmond who was pretty solid. When the FLAGSHIP leaves the conference along with Temple and recent addition Butler, the A-10 is a far cry from what it used to be and that is why it is easy to dog the conference. Just like the MCC/Horizon is a shadow of what it used to be when we were a part of it. Each of those conferences has taken a step down from losing the top programs from each conference, namely Xavier.

During USC Xavier yesterday there was someone blowing an air horn in the first half when x was shooting free throws. They were doing this when X was up 20 in the first half. From what I heard it was actually a UD Fan that got kicked out of the building.

I've been here since Wednesday. I was shocked when UD fans came to our noon game just to root against us. I had Disney passes and much better things to do - like enjoy my vacation. So I didn't go to their games to root against them.

This is why I don't like this rivalry. It's way too annoying and serious for some of the older folk. Give me butler any day. At least I can respect them. I can't respect a 45 year old man with an air horn.
Perfectly stated. I respect a program like Butler. dayton, not so much.

About 4 to 1, UD to XU fans. Honestly don't understand their fan dominance here. That's alright. Not a must win situation, but would be nice to pull off a win.

About the only thing they didn't mention about Macura is how much he'll be hated by Dayton fans by the end of the day.
Intersting he thinks we only go 7-8 deep and depth is a weakness. I'd day we go 8 deep every game and can go 10 deep.

I hope someone downloaded the photoshopped hair on Myles for the bulletin board.

The "overlords" quip is some serious irony, given the history of delusional internet lording over from the Flyer faithful. Doesn't that medicine taste bad?
It's a still great day to be a Muskie, but a sad day to be a supporting member of this board.
