Dogs, no issue. Kids? If it’s not mandated by the Gov’t, ok.
Greater good? Whose? Who decides what’s best for everyone?

Not at all, even if you took it that way. Should a dog with kennel cough be allowed to board with your dog? Should a kid with [fill in the communicable disease here] be allowed to sit at a desk next to your kid in school. There IS a line. Where you set it is the fuzzy part and is going to vary from person to person. Ultimately somebody has to make the decision. It’s most often the institution (be it school, business, kennel, etc) I think, but I’m sure there are cases where a government entity makes sense. And I’m a “less government, stay out of my business” kinda guy!
You could easily argue that seatbelt laws are an invasion of your right to choose and an invasion of your privacy. I would get that argument, but I still don’t mind the law. Sometimes people need to be protected from themselves. Someone is going to have to draw some lines....somewhere. We can all argue from case to case. Laws exist for a reason.
I think seatbelt laws are the wrong analogy, instead it is like a speed limit. Sure my car can go 120mph on 71N, and that is a personal choice I make, but at some point my stupidity impacts other people, so as a society we decided to put a limit on my stupidity in degradation of my freedom to drive how I want.
My BIL just flew back to Atlanta and is now driving home to Greenville, SC after a wedding up north. He went out with the other sister’s s longtime boyfriend in his fancy new BMW. Apparently this thing is self driving and quite the vehicle! Jorge told him what buttons to push and he could just take his hands off the wheel at 80 mph. It will slow down if you get close to something and keep you in your lane. He said it felt and sounded like they were barely moving. He wanted to push it a bit to see if it would remain so steady. Jorge said “it’s got radar detection built in, go as fast as you want!” He took it up to 102 mph and it just glided. Not sure how close to 102 mph I’ve ever gotten, but I’m pretty sure it was in a different zip code.
I don’t claim to have an answer that will make everyone happy, but I’m interested in hearing YOUR suggestions. So far all you have done is question everything. What is the answer? Questions are easy, answers are more difficult. So, what you got?
It seems like “greater good” might have triggered some people, but I believe there is such a thing. See the speeding analogy above. A few don’t have the right to jeopardize the rest of us with reckless behavior. Not sure why that is such a difficult issue.

Well the good news is that by the end of the month, 35% of the US population will be vaccinated. Heard immunity should start around 30%. By the end of May we should be close to 45% - 50%.
It seems they have the shots flowing well! My niece skipped her first appointment. She normally travels the world, but is afraid of needles! She got the shot on her second try because they have a trip planned and hopes it will come off. She’s also a teacher, so I’d want the shot just for that reason.
Businesses, schools and residences can choose to require a mask and individuals can choose to do business, attend the school or find a new apartment. No gov’t mandates.
No one can require a vaccine to conduct business, work or own/rent property. That, is discriminatory unless you want to revisit an my body/my choice questions in society. I don’t.
Are public schools not an extension of the government? I’m not talking just Covid, but vaccines in general.
I looked into taking some classes at a nearby public University for fun before Covid. I needed high school and college transcripts, and proof of vaccination. I don’t even know how I could do that at this point.

Any public school? Wouldn’t they all have the same vaccination restrictions? Apply it to private schools? Either way, it’s a great option to have.
We lived in Sarasota, FL where someone noted the legal requirement that if your kid had special education requirements their needs had to be met by public schools. It was designed for learning disabled kids, obviously, but someone argued their kid was gifted, and that also required special attention. They opened the Pineview School for the Gifted. You had to be an A student and have an IQ of 130 or above, but they would send a bus to pick you up from anywhere in the county. It was VERY cool and they rate highly on a national level.
Our youngest had a great experience there, but they didn’t have sports in the high school grades. You had to get the kid from school to their districted HS every day for practice. THAT wasn’t going to work so he went to a private Catholic HS where his brother spent the 4 years before him. Pineview was awesome! Some of the public schools felt like it was “uncool” to be smart.
It gets better! When I turn 62 the school board portion of our taxes goes away. I remember being at a neighborhood party years ago and one guy said he just had a birthday and his property tax dropped from $7,500 to $2,500. I had no idea it could be that much! Happy birthday! I am ALL for funding education, but they will get their money one way or another. When my taxes go down I won’t complain!
Pretty sure it’s private and Charters as well. Haven’t crossed that bridge personally however the law went to the SCOTUS a while back due to the allowance for parochial schools so I’ll see if the time comes. It is awesome.
The sports issue came into play for me in HS as I wasn’t allowed to play in Oh. Worked out though. Loved my HS and still had the opportunity to play against GCL teams.
I know vaccines are a requirement and it’s wrong. I believe the reasoning is for eradication not outbreaks tho. Could be wrong.
The problem is some kids can't get vaccinated. That is why they are required for those who can.
Some states have no exemptions other than medical, not religious or any others, I think that is the way to go, otherwise the anti-vaxxers just say it's against their religion.
Where did you get 30% from?
I thought it was closer to 70% and just looked it up and found this from Johns Hopkins:
"What we know about coronavirus so far suggests that, if we were really to go back to a pre-pandemic lifestyle, we would need at least 70% of the population to be immune to keep the rate of infection down (“achieve herd immunity”) without restrictions on activities. But this level depends on many factors, including the infectiousness of the virus (variants can evolve that are more infectious) and how people interact with each other."

Don’t get me wrong I all for everyone getting vaccinated but there is a big problem with forcing someone to take a needle against their will. I don’t have to agree but it’s there right to just say no.
I don’t put a lot of things in my body but others can to their hearts’ content or tolerance. Why am I craving bacon???
