Eh depends when the sanctions come down, if they do, at least they know they'll have something secure with Padgett for a few years to tide over, would show loyalty, and could be a decent hire, if they start to decline, then they could fire him for reasonable cause and get a candidate working there without sanctions aka whoever they basically want.
Side note, South Carolina beating Georgia and Kentucky back to back, a lot of parity in college ball this year.

Padgett has never even been a lead assistant before this year. You don't parlay his "resume" into one if the best jobs in college basketball. He's done a pretty decent job this year (particularly of late). Kevin Ollie did okay with Jim Calhoun's players, too.
They'll have a line out the door of candidates more qualified than Padgett come late March.

If he can recruit, which I think it would be difficult for anyone right now, why Not? He has now accomplished two things Pitino couldn't...win against a ranked conference foe on the road (the Leonard hamiltons) and at Notre dame. Depends how the rest of the season plays out, but up to this point, he's done a good job in a horrible situation.

Don’t ask me why but I watched the UC and UCF game last night.
What a shit show.
But one thing I wish Trevon would do that Jacob Evans seems to do, is not let his bad shooting affect other parts of his game.
Evans was 3-14 and was garbage on offense for most of the night but on defense he played like he scored 30 points. A chase down block, a basket saving steal and just overall elite effort.
When Tre is in slumps offensively, I’d like to see him try a little harder at the other things in basketball.
It’s why Evans is going to get drafted ahead of blueitt even though we’d nrver trade Tre for him

Evans is by far the superior athlete.
Tre is by far the better basketball player.

I don’t want to bet against a XU player but I’ll take this bet.
Evans is 6’6 with a 40” vertical
TB is 6’5 with maybe a 30 inch vertical
Evans is an elite defender per synergy
Tb is below average or average on that end
Evans is just a jr and already on every nba draft board
TB wasn’t as a jr
Tb is shooting over 40% for the first time in the career
Evans is doing so this year and last year
Evans can play point guard and is a really good play maker and leads his team in assists
Tb can pass well but not in the same way Evans can.
I think Tb is a pretty college player and I’d draft him ahead of Evans for a college team but the reality is TB’s best position is the 4 and at the nba level he could never be a 4. He’d have to be a 2 and he isn’t athletic enough.
Evans is the protypical nba 3 & D guy. He can play the 1, 2 or 3 and guard all those positions.
I just don’t see a position for Tre in the nba.
I mean I hope I’m wrong though

That’s a bold statement.
Basketball is a 2 way game and more than just scoring. I don’t think Tre does anything better other than scoring.
I’ll go with Tre is a better scorer and alpha. That’s true.
But better basketball player Is a huge stretch and very few numbers would support that
