Hopefully that helps.
I remember hearing David Bell or Dick Williams talk about how the organization totally overhauled its approach to hitting this spring and that it was taking a while to click.
I wonder if that was something Ward tried to implement and failed or if he was at odds with the approach from the beginning. Either way, nothing worked this year except Suarez hitting home runs. It'll be interesting to see which direction they go now and how they frame it to the media.

The Reds hiring this Driveline guy is very interesting. The first time I read about Driveline and saw some of their video, I thought it was bullshit, but they apparently get results. We'll see how it works out for the Red Stockings.

David Bell (a St Gertrude boy) did a very solid job in his first season. The jewel in the crown of his tenure to date may be the hiring of Derek Johnson.
He has baseball experience like few in the game. Looking forward to good run with David Bell as skipper.

Long article with a simple conclusion:
Baseball is a game with a lot of randomness in it already, and that randomness overwhelms the effect of skill. Based on this, I wouldn't recommend reading much into a team's one-run record.
The Reds were absolutely average this year. Their run differential says they should have been around .500 or maybe like 80-82. That's not good good enough for the playoffs but Bell in his first season is a lot more progressive than any manager the Reds have had in awhile. That's in line with the front office.

MLB suspending Astros GM Jeff Luhnow and manager AJ Hinch for a season thanks to their roles in their sign-stealing scandal. Astros also fined $5 million and will forfeit 1st and 2nd round picks this season.
EDIT: Luhnow and Hinch now fired by Houston. Woof.
