You're a journalist but you misuse the word free lance (free-lance) and you used the wrong preposition in front of orthopedic?

The pot calling the kettle black, sweet16. 'a' is incorrect (as you said), but it is certainly not a preposition. (It's an indefinite article --- the simplest type of adjective.)
