Part of it is because UNC got in when they shouldn't have. Having the AD of UNC as the committee chair gave them that bid. I don't care if he was " out of the room" when that team was discussed, there was zero reason they should have gotten in.
The only justification for WVU not getting in that I see is that they kind of limped along after starting 13-4...I know the final ten games is not something that is officially looked at, but that's the only thing I see that could be a black mark imo.

Definitely. I find it hilarious that he would always say "well I left the room", when the whole point of being the Chair is to have influence. Of course him being the AD had influence, it's simple human nature. The simple fact that everyone knew he was the UNC AD was influence enough.
Also, his name is Bubba. Guys named Bubba from the South have been part of the good ole boy network for 300 years.Last edited by drudy23; 03-17-2025 at 08:10 AM.

WVA got screwed. Committee noting Star out played a factor. He’s been out since first week of December. They beat Kansas and Iowa state without him. And committee said bartorvik was a big factor (probably because UNC was best of the bubble, X a spot behind them) but WVA was ahead of UNC on bartorvik.
Not to derail but rumors of WVA coach moving on. Wonder if Powell goes with or X could get him back. Maybe a long shot, he prolly didn’t love X not guarantee minutes as a freshmanLast edited by Xavier; 03-17-2025 at 09:18 AM.

I'm super proud of the way the guys closed out the year, the ending of the Marquette game in the Big East Tournament was unfortunate, but they took care of business when they needed to. There's a lot of talent on this roster, and we do have a chance to make a splash I think (if we can close games out), I'm just happy we're in the tournament and this should be the baseline for majority of the years. Helluva job by Miller and the team to get it together and make it happen.
WVU definitely got screwed, and the DeVries injury being the reason is absolutely moronic. I don't think DeVries (coach) will leave yet though, WVU fans are very very happy with what he did with that team this year, they should have been terrible, yet had some big time wins over good squads. It's idiotic they were left out of the tournament, but the fans/AD/everyone is stoked with the job DeVries is doing, he'll probably already be in line for a raise.

Obviously they are happy it’s not a let go sort of thing- his name is being tied to a couple jobs. Could be just to get a raise. But from Iowa, his brother played at Iowa (football) so he is naturally on the top of the list for Iowa. His name was tied to Virginia a little as well, and Indiana.

I watched WVU on + several times this year. Powell is definitely going to be a good four year player and he can definitely shoot. He did, however, play like a freshman and made a lot of freshman mistakes. I bet he improves like Swain did his second season.
On the tourney, I know play-in-game seems like a bit of a failure but this changes the team's culture. X's name was called, it wasn't last year. How many guys on this roster have tourney experience? Hunter does, pretty sure McKnight/Maddox don't and I know Free doesn't. You need guys who know what it takes to make it to change the culture of a team. Next year everyone that returns will know what it takes and push that much harder so it's not so tight on selection Sunday.

When this season started I felt like this was a second weekend NCAA tournament team.Back in January I thought we were out for sure. Now we're in all be it barely in.I'll take it. Hopefully Sean learned his lesson Thursday and doesn't have Zack and Ryan out of the game at the same time anymore.

Lundardi has a piece on ESPN discussing some of the mystifying choices the committee made. My opinion of him isn't great, but the piece is solid work. He writes he isn't questioning their integrity but the article basically does that.
