Headline today in the Biz Journal:
Miami University board OKs location for Millett Hall's $187M replacement.
$187 million.
Miami.
A MAC school.
Good for Miami, but would anyone care to opine on why this makes any sense? Purely a presumption on my part, but that price tag would suggest at least 10,000 seats in some configuration.
How do you fill 10,000 seats in Oxford, Ohio for a Miami basketball game on a consistent basis? I understand the facility will be used in other ways - at least I assume they're thinking in that direction - but basketball will be its primary purpose.
Just curious on anyone's thoughts on this bit of news.

Combo as a hockey arena too maybe?
We've come a long way since my bench seat at the Fieldhouse!

I heard previous rumblings about this - are doing this in the Oxford Uptown area or is it going to be in the mass parking lot adjacent to Yager Stadium?

I’d assume it’d be for hockey as well?
I have no clue but is 187 million a lot to build an arena at this point? I really have no clue.
Just looking this year they did have almost 8k for a league game…….
Some other things I’m wondering….. maybe they are making a play for when the next conference deck chairs get shifted around? I’d also assume that Miami oh has a lot of very wealthy alumni… maybe they are finally tapping into that. Their endowment is about four times Xavier’sLast edited by Xville; 03-04-2025 at 04:24 PM.

Yes would have to be multiple sport facility and also used for graduations and other events. But the problem will always be, they are in the middle of nowhere.

Could be wrong but I doubt they will use it for hockey. They have stand alone arena with Goggin and holds about 3,000.
Part of my daughter’s graduation ceremony was there. Actually a pretty nice venue and only 19 years old. Also, they hold quite a few youth hockey events there.

IIRC, the Goggin Ice Center is actually two distinct rinks - there's a smaller one for practice and intramurals and there's also the bigger one which is actually called Steve Cady Arena.

I hope X considers opening the new arena vs Miami if they are interested since Miami opened the Cintas Center for us.

According to The Miami Student the new arena will be built either where Cook Field is now or tucked into the academic campus where four buildings are scheduled to be demolished (incuding Williams Hall where I took all my Mass Comm courses 35 years ago.)
It's winning time.
