I thought Go had a very good point, and you’ve added “the REST of the story”, I believe.

You’re suggesting that the 40M without protection now are driving twice the cases as the 330M without protection last year?

If I were a cynic, I would say that Biden and team waited until new cases peaked (which they did Sepember 2 on the 7 day average) before they made their big announcement. Thus, they can be virtually assured cases will go down right away, and they can claim credit.
    Not that much more transmissible.

I wonder what the next move will be in 2 months or so when cases are surging again.

I’m a cynic and I agree with both of you. :)

Also, if it is seasonal we’re due for a natural slowdown as we head into the Fall. It’s the best, greatest, most beautiful time for this.

People unaffected by Biden’s vax mandate include:
    1) Those on Social Security (high risk group)
    2) Those collecting welfare or unemployment benefits (among the lowest vax rate)
    3) USPS employees (high Dem campaign contributors)
    4) US Congress and their staffers (just to drop a middle finger along with the mandate).

The viral loads in the Delta infections were ~1000 times higher than those in the earlier 19A/19B strain infections on the day when viruses were firstly detected.

Delta transmission is at 50% or more transmissible than alpha and twice as transmissible as original virus.

Increased transmissibility in a population with some waning immunity is going to show a pretty significant spike, especially in unvaccinated pockets. Just look at Ohio’s most infectious counties per capita. As someone may have pointed out earlier it may result in a quicker flattening of the spike.

I also have seen more hospitalizations with this variant. I don’t have any data yet but it seems like there is a longer hospital stay for patients that die, meaning instead of dying on day 17 it seems to be a few days later. I have no data to back this up just what it seems. On the outpatient side, it also appears to be resistant to at least one monoclonal antibody (bam). Regeneron is still effective.

I do still think behavior is driving this. Not saying people should stay home, I’m sick of staying home as is everyone else. But compare this summer to last summer as far as activities go. There are crowds at schools, football games, concerts, etc. which is great. But we can’t fairly compare this year to last year or region to region because the behaviors are quite different. Without vaccinations I can’t imagine what numbers we would be seeing.

You mean this mandate could be politically motivated? Say it ain’t so!

I don’t think you could force it on SS recipients since that money must be statutorily paid if you qualify since it’s really your money. There’s no reason you shouldn’t force it on the other 3 groups.

Will the illegal aliens crossing the southern border be forced to get a vaccination? I don’t think so but haven’t actually seen it defined.

Sad. That’s nearly 600,000 Americans unvaxxed, threatening the vaccinated, and filling hospitals. Low hanging fruit for ending this pandemic. Come on Joe - mandate ‘em.

Yeah, the Seniors who stay home most of time are the problem, not the 70 million unvaxxed.
