I think it's sort of a litmus test for assholes. It's a relatively simple, but mildly annoying, thing to do that evidence overwhelmingly suggests has at least some impact on dulling the spread of the virus. You could just shut up and put the mask on, or you can make it crusade to argue against it and confront retail workers when asked to put a mask on, etc.

The lockdown thing I understand, as it has a major impact on people's livelihood.

I don't have a strong feeling about masks either way. If there is a mandate, I wear one. If I am in a place where everyone else is wearing one, I wear one as well. If I'm at the office or at a particular venue (generally where I play pickleball) where basically no one else is wearing one, I don't wear one.

You would think that the anti-lockdown people would be all about masks, claiming that we do not need to lockdown as we can put into place mitigation efforts that will greatly lower transmission risks. But instead it seems like the loudest voices (so probably a vocal minority) are both anti-lockdown and anit-mitigation efforts.

Reminds me of the people who are against abortion and birth control. The lesser of the two evils can kind of prevent the other, so pragmatically it would seem to make sense to support it.

You know this is a Xavier message board, right? A school that is at least loosely affiliated with the Catholic Church.

Would you think the majority of posters on this message board are against birth control?

No, but I find it a pretty interesting dynamic. I suspect a majority of members of most parishes aren't picking up what the Catholic Church is putting down on quite a few issues.

I think that is how most other Catholics sects describe the Jesuits.

Pro-maskers are in denial of reality - the numbers speak for themselves. I'm sorry if the only information you get is from Fauci and CNN, but the data is pretty clear that masks don't work.

How do you explain the surge in cases over the winter when 80-90% of people in this country have been wearing a mask on a consistent basis since last summer?

If masks work, how do you explain the fact that 40-70% of the country has already had Covid? You are aware that the CDC published a study back in November where they estimated that the number of cases was actually 8X the number of reported cases? Other more recent studies show that the multiple is between 4 and 10 times the reported number of cases.

    Very true
