That's not a better idea, nor is it less expensive. For starters, the stories are already in print or on air, so spying on them isn't going to make them go away. And, if what Trump is saying is true, not only will it not cost anything to sue, it will be a rather substantial pay day.

Put yourself in the police officers' shoes. Reports are they had already tried to use a taser on him. He allegedly had a knife in the car (that's what the police report says). He was going into the vehicle. Only one guy can try to grab him if he's getting into the vehicle. Would you take the chance of him grabbing a knife and shanking you in the neck before you could draw your weapon?

Officers are trained to neutralize the threat. That can be done with 1 shot or 7 or less/more.

And they tried to take him down before that and he fought them and resisted. They tried to tase (sp?) twice and he kept going.
