So are you saying that you too don't see the difference between rules when something is contagious and when they are not?

Sounds like he was struggling with the complicated instructions involved with those tricky masks! Probably kept walking around, bumping into walls and gave up. Pull it down a bit, so you can still see.

No I do. Just don’t think we should be mandating that people have to wear masks. Didn’t take the Governor of Ohio long to realize you we shouldn’t do that. We don’t need government telling us how to go about our lives. Let people make the decisions for themselves. I was joking about the helmets but wouldn’t be surprised if at some point that some whack job try’s to make people wear helmets in cars.

If you want to pass on wearing your helmet, or your seatbelt, that won’t kill MY mother.

    THAT is the difference.

I promise not to go near your mother. Point was we don’t need the government telling us what to do. If people are worried about the virus continue to stay home or wear a mask. The point is choice. Everyone should have one.

I agree. You currently have the choice to be responsible and considerate of others.......or not. It seems clear where you stand.

The person you DO go near at Kroger may work at my mother’s retirement home. I’m actually NOT worried about the virus, but I DO wear a mask to the grocery store, because I respect the people who work there. I owe that to them. Freedom of choice does not mean I want to be a selfish asshole.

So people that choose to not wear a mask are selfish assholes? Got it. Let me know where the proof is that regular masks protect anyone. Again I will keep my distance and practice healthy habits. If someone is not wearing a mask, I won’t think they are an asshole.

I think the facts are there about wearing masks protects others. If you choose to go to crowded places like a grocery store without one, that’s up to you. I went somewhere recently and realized I was in a crowd without one. I felt badly for that. Not the end of the world, but I regretted it. I try to respect other people. You feel free to be you.

Sometimes it’s not about hating it because the government made you do it. Sometimes it’s about doing it because it’s the right thing to do, at least for now.

If I didn’t wear a mask, I would feel like a selfish asshole. Again, you feel free to be you.

If covid were not contagious, or if the only people who were contagious were those with symptoms, there would be no need for people to wear masks so long as they self quarantined if they had symptoms. But that is not the case here. The whole reason for someone to wear a mask is to protect OTHERS from getting the infection if someone is sick but asymptomatic. Masks don't protect the wearer unless they are the N95 masks, but they do provide protection for those around the wearer. Capiche?

Ladies and gentlemen: I give you the reason why we have to have these strict and ridiculous lockdown rules that are broadly communicated without nuance.

We have a group of people who seem to (1) reflexively do the opposite of anything they are told and (2) don't really give a shit about society as a whole (although they will staunchly profess to).

Asking that people where a cloth mask in public places seems like a completely reasonable measure that is pretty universally regarded to help prevent the spread of viruses. Unfortunately we have a group of patriots who, when told to wear masks, can't just comply for the benefits of their elderly neighbors.

"You want me to wear a mask? No way! Tell Grandma not to go to Kroger if she doesn't want to breath in my respiratory droplets. Don't tread on me!"

Just wear the goddamn masks so we can start getting back to normal.

Edit: Also there is plenty of proof that masks (even simple cloth masks) play a role in helping to reduce transmission of disease. Saying 'show me the proof' is like saying 'show me the proof the earth is round'. It's universally accepted science. I know that we all aren't big on science all of a sudden (which I don't think will age well), but this is basic medical protocol and has been for 100+ years.
