So what happens why we decide everyone has to go back to work and we need to get back to allowing sports, concerts and everything else to resume and this thing is still lingering and we have another outbreak? Do we just lock down again? I mean the hospitals will still be flooded and people will still be at risk and people will still die. I get the whole flattening of this thing but how does that stop the spread when people start leaving the house again? And to be honest there are millions and millions of people that are not really on lock down. Its not like everyone is just sitting at home. Its crazy the number of businesses I see in operation when I drive into work and also how many businesses that can call themselves essential.

I agree the “essential” businesses in operation is a bit ridiculous. I saw the Orkin guy today. I mean, nobody likes pests but I can put a couple glue traps down for a month at the office.

Ideally when everyone goes back there will be enough public immunity to withstand another surge. I think that’s what China is banking on right?

I sadly am closer to her belief on this than the more optimistic one. I'm not sure what planet people are on when they think this will be maxed at 20k deaths like one of the articles that was posted suggested.

As always on this topic, I will be ecstatic if and hoping that I'm completely wrong.

So it seems like we are doing OK in some places (Rural America, Western States) but not in others (NYC, North Jersey). Obviously the large cities will fare worse. Younger people have been flocking to cities for the last decade or more, I wonder if this will cause some to re-think the suburbs, or even rural living. I live in a suburb of Philadelphia and I have a lot of co-workers that live in the City. My experience is much better than theirs right now.

Also - Detroit (Wayne County) is an interesting / frightening example of just how fast things can become bad and highlights the need for frequent and ongoing testing when we all do go back to work (which I think won't be for at least another month). This thing can scale up rapidly.

IMO this thing is just going to run its course. The numbers will be lower than it would have been since everyone is doing the social distancing thing and so forth. But the same would be said with other flu's and virus'. I do expect a spike back up once the quarantine period is over mainly due to people traveling again. I really do like this thread, especially with the Doc's posting really good information.

Yeah, the only way to keep it from spiking back up is for the quarantine to last long enough for it to run its course without spreading it further. ALL of the people/households that are infected need to get to a point to where they are over it so they can't infect anyone else. But, if stuff opens back up too soon, it can come back just as quickly as it went away, and then we might be right back to where we are now. That's my concern. It's not that I don't appreciate how damaging this is to the economy. It's that I fear we will have to do this AGAIN for LONGER if we don't self quarantine long enough for it to run its course right now.

Something that I've been kind of wondering. What if at the time all of the conference tournaments and NCAA Tournaments were being shut down had we gone into full quarantine mode then?? I can't help but think we would have gotten it under control quickly, and that we'd be nearing the point of coming out of it right about now.
