Mack also seemed to not want to discuss the concussion issue. Seems like he's not on the same page as the doctors .I get the concern with concussions in football where there are non stop blows to the head. Doesn't seem like it's on the same level in basketball.

Chris asked Byron to move on from the concussion questions. He does trust his medical team, but also might have his own thoughts about concussion protocols that he preferred not to share. My guess is he may have felt JP and Kaiser could have played against Marshall, but the medical team (properly) erred on the side of caution and protocol.

I think in one respect, Mack really CAN'T talk about it. If he is seen as trying to influence the process by even suggesting players come back sooner than the protocol and the Md.s prescribe, he is opening himself up to a major shit-storm. Especially if something subsequently happens to that player. In this climate, he has to tread very carefully - or, better yet - not comment at all. It's the prudent thing to do.

Well, being in medical school, I feel I'm relatively qualified to talk about the severity of a concussion, obviously it depends on the grade, etc. but it's a lot smarter to be more conservative with a concussion than to possibly risk making it worse. If you've ever had one, they are absolutely miserable, the headache and nausea, not to mention you're in a constant "brain haze" state so you can't even think remotely on par with normal. I think it was a good call to keep em out against Marshall if they were even at 80-90%.

Sounds like game day to me!
...and, what is NORMAL anyway?
As far as the concussion thing goes, I agree the medical issues should drive the thing, bit I think it is the political, legal and/or media climate that is driving it these days that really makes coaches particularly wary.I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I drink 2XS.

Haha I don't know if you were being serious about the "brain haze" thing, but it's just weird, you make really easy mental lapses, like forgetting what side of the road to drive on, or taking a while to do anything that requires higher level thinking, you're just not as mentally sharp as you normally are. So think of it as your IQ drops a bit, and you have this constant nagging headache and feel like you're almost floating in your own brain, it's really strange.
