I know it isn't on Netflix but didn't know where else to put this. I am three episodes into True Detective and holy crap this show is awesome. Mcconaughey and Harrelson are incredible in their roles, and the writing is dynamic. This is not your typical Cop show.

I am a little disappointed to hear that they both will not be returning for season 2 and the story will be completely different every season ala American Horror Story. I'm not necessarily disappointed that the story will be different, but that Colin Farrell who can't act himself out of a paperbag is going to be one of the leads. They couldn't get someone better than him? Really?

Colin Farrell wasn't terrible in In Bruges. But, yeah, otherwise he's pretty much Ireland's Tom Cruise.

Pretty good hourlong Stand Up Comedy Special- "Women who Kill". Amy Schumer is hilarious.

True Detective is some of the best (albeit disturbing) TV I've seen. I loved Breaking Bad, but for concentrated entertainment I'm not sure there's been a better "season" of TV than True Detective.

I'm bummed that McConaughey and Harrelson won't be returning, but that's how you get guys like them to play in a TV series. They would never tie themselves up long-term, but can put in a few months.

Like you, I'm more bummed that they didn't get a better cast for Season 2. I'm not a Colin Farrell fan. At all. But maybe he'll surprise me. God knows I was surprised by McConaughey and Harrelson (although both have had MUCH better performances than Farrell -- and frankly I have probably always underestimated McConaughey until Dallas Buyer's Club.)

I agree with your overall thoughts on Farrell. I did really like In Bruges. But that was as much for Gleeson as Farrell....Farrell was good though. Having said that, I wouldn't be the least bit shocked if he isn't surprisingly good in True Detective. Gotta feel for the new season's cast...not an easy act to follow.

Interested to hear some responses to Peaky Blinders. I think it's pretty strong.

Recenlty got Netflix a couple months ago (had it years ago when it was pretty much just movies) and my wife and I love it. We watched the entire series of Breaking Bad, both seasons of Orange is the New Black, and are now almost finished with the second season of Dexter. After finishing Dexter we have some that we are interested in but not sure what we'll start next, it will still take us a while to finish the other 6+ seasons of Dexter we have left.

I'll go through the thread to see what you guys have been suggesting.

How are you liking Dexter thus far. IMO, seasons 1,2 and 4 are laughably better than the rest of the series. I hope you find more joy in the later seasons than I did.

Other shows worth watching on netflix include The West Wing, LOST, Parks and Rec, The Office and, well, plenty of others. If you're a fan of standup, you'll know to check out Burr and Louis CK, but I'd also recommend Tom Segura's Completely Normal. It's worth a listen.

    Cheers
