    Stan the "Hammer"

Nothing of great news here to report but Stanley Burrell is still a great young man and representing Xavier the right way. I was sick in bed the other day messing around on facebook and decided to look up the hammer. Within a few hours he accepted a friend request and I thought I would congratulate him on his past year of achievements. Within the hour he personally wrote me back thanking me for the support and letting me know he wants to come back to X one day. I continued the conversation with him asking if there are any sites to follow him in europe but apparently he's with a new team and not sure of how to follow them yet. Also mentioned he still follows X but like us trying to follow him it's not that easy over there. I have to give mad love to our man Stan for staying so humble and accessible to Xavier nation. He is a great example of what Xavier represents.

Stan is THE Man. He has also become a father for the first time very recently with a son Jayden.

Stan scored over 1,600 points and sacrificed his offense his senior year to help the team on D. That team went Elite 8.

Stan Burrell belongs in Xavier's Athletic Hall of Fame. No doubt about it!

Amen! I honestly thought he was all about getting his points in the beginning, but his selfless transformation into a defensive stud proved me 100% wrong. He put the teams best interests first and that it was a heck of a run. Loved it all.

Loved how he shut down Brian Roberts from UD every time. Every XU fan should love Stan for his team first play. My 12 year old son takes after Stan and views himself as "a lock down defender like Stanley." Guy is a stud is should be in the HOF for sure.

    Stan the "hammer"

Stan's response when none of his teammates (namely Josh Duncan) was not on the A10 1st team was also epic.
Brown against Burton...Brown starting his dribble...He moves in, he pops up....SCOOORRREESSS!....LENNY BROWN!...XAVIER WINS IT!...THE MUSKIES WIN IT!...71-69...The UC Bearcats are #1 in the country, #2 in their OWN CITY! - Andy MacWilliams

"This league is pathetic. We went 14-2, top 10 in the nation. Forget first team, Josh is probably the player of the year. You've got the best team and nobody on the first-team all-conference team? It's ridiculous. You talk about not having motivation? We got plenty now. I'm really looking forward to Atlantic City now."

Nice, thank you. I don't think I ever saw that. That's awesome! That's the kind tough attitude that made him the player he was and the kind of guy who could totally transform his game. Having said that, maybe it proves a "team" is more than a group of great players/stars. Stan changed the kind of star he was. (He's still correct, but you need both studs and "team" to get to an elite 8.)

He was awesome! Just a question though, how can you not follow X in this day and age? I guess with the time zone it would be kind of hard. I don't live in Europe or wherever he is now but didn't realize it was that difficult.

I'm gonna go see him play in a few weeks. His Turkish team is coming to play a team from Moscow. I'm pretty excited about it. I hope I'll get a chance to talk to him after the game.

The full article is even better, with some fantastic quotes. Here is the ESPN one; I couldn't find the Cincinnati Enquirer one.
