Barresi's in Silverton/Deer Park is outstanding (for Italian).
One of the guitarists for a band I fill in for occasionally is co-owner of Pompilios in Newport, and I know they have some good food too.

It's when you just have a bottle of wine with dinner and two drinks after. You're not drinking, you're just having a drink.

I like Pompilios for the atmosphere and the Rain Man memorabilia, but the food is pretty average. Any place that serves sliced white bread out of a bag as the bread isn't going to impress me in the overall food category.

Need to find a place for dinner tonight.

The girlfriend is coming into town tonight, and up until a little bit (once I got an actual job), we didn't go out much. She doesn't want to go someplace terribly fancy, but we're looking for someplace new that isn't fried food. We live in the Hyde Park/Mt Lookout area. Anyone give me some good places to eat?

Thanks in advance. Winner gets reps and a beer next time at Dana's/Cintas.

Have you tried Indigo on the corner of Erie and Edwards? Don't know exactly what you are looking for, but that place has a pretty nice offering of meals across the board. If you go, sun-dried tomatoes there are a must.

Scotti's on Vine Street is really wonderful. It's authentic Italian food, and it is very tasty. You can call and make reservations.

Assuming you're looking for a decent "date night" spot that is a little bit of a change of pace, but not a fancy "special night out":

Have you been to Poco a Poco in HP square? They have good fish tacos and other small bite plates. It's a good change of pace. Cumin on Erie is good too. Good food but a little less date night atmosphere: Ya Kat Mien (sp?) in the small strip by Edwards and Wasson, and Shaan Indian in HP plaza.

Bonefish is a decent date night spot too, but can get a little busy and noisy on the weekends.

If you're choosing between one of the 17 Thai/shushi places in the area, my choice would be Wild Ginger.

    Deweys for pizza in Oakley.

A little higher budget, and more off the beaten path cuisine wise is Hugo in Oakley.

If you are willing to fight for a parking space I love Teak Thai in Mt. Adams. Nice place for a date and not terribly expensive.

I've never been disappointed at Senate on Vine Street. The duck fat fries are top notch.
