Light would take more than 2.7 hours to travel around the star's circumference, compared to 14.5 seconds for the Sun. It would take 7×10 to the 15th power Earths to fill the volume of VY Canis Majoris.

I realize the smartest people on earth are working on this stuff, but I also realize much of what they do is just guess work. I don't trust much of any of what I hear about space because my feeling is that we're like little gnats trying to construct the Empire State building. It is completely futile. I admire the effort though.
