Hilton Head help

So due to a set of pretty unique set of circumstances(read awesome) I am in Hilton Head for the next 6 weeks. I have been down here 2 other times but it has been awhile. Looking for tips of places to go and restaurants to try. I am a golfer so tips on courses would be helpful but not looking to drop a ton on a round either. I'm in Hilton Head Plantation if that makes any difference.

My brother lived there for a few years, but it was so long ago that I do not remember the names of any of the places (and they've probably all changed by now anyway). However, I was a big fan of Hilton Head National GC, which just off the island. Not cheap, but not ridiculously expensive like some of the others, either.

You will be super close to Savannah. Be sure to hit up Uncle Bubbas and Paula Deans. I am only about 2 hours away from Hilton Head.

The Robert Cupp courses are nice. Also, anything in Palmetto Dunes is nice and not too pricey.

I think Hilton Head Natnl is the best bang for your buck right now. I think greens fees are $75 in the morning. If you can brave the heat, the afternoon rates at most of the courses are incredibly affordable $35-50.

Rose Hill Plantation recently reopened their course and it is by far the chapest. I think it's $45/round in the mornings and the evening rate is $25 or something stupid like that.

Another option you might want to look into is booking 3 rounds at the Palmetto Dunes courses (Hills, Fazio and Jones) If you book 3 rounds I think the price ends up being about $80/round and the golf carts there are air conditioned.

The mexican food at San Miguels is so so, but it's cheap, on the Harbor (Shelter Cove) and they have live music every night at the outdoor bar.

Another place we'll hit when we're there is called Marleys. It's in the square on the left just before you get to the Sea Pines guard shack. They usually have a good fresh catch selection and they don't bang you on price too bad.

Paula Deen's is ok -- but very commercial.

If you make it to Savannah (and I recommend you do) -- be sure to catch Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room. Link

It's probably THE best restaurant I have been to, especially in Savannah. It's only open M-F from 11PM to 2/3PM. You have to stand in line (usually 1/2hr) but it's worth every bite. It's family style old Southern cooking at its best.

Anything in Savannah is fun, you definitely have to go.

Back on-island, if you can get into Sea Pines their golf courses are amazing. Also, just riding a bike around the plantation grounds is a great time as well.

There is an amazing seafood place just off-island that serves fresh oysters and is located on a dock right on the inter-coastal waterway. I don't have the name right now, but I'll ask my family that lives in the area and update the post with the relevant information.

It's also fun to ride bikes on the beach since it's mostly hard sand around the island. Just enjoy your 6 weeks man, you are in one of the nicest places in the country IMO.

The wife and I usually split one of the enormous Nacho dishes and then just sit there getting hammered on tequila and beer.

Do not go on Tuesday night or you will be overrun by anklebiters due to the fireworks.

Hudson's is always a must when in Hilton Head. I tried to stay in Sea Pines the past few times I have been there. It is close to Harbor Town and the bike trails are great. The golf courses in Sea Pines are ok, and are reasonably priced.

I haven't played the Heritage in Harbor Town, but I hear it is a great course. It will set you back a couple of hundred, but in the off season you might get a deal if they are airrating the greens or something.

I am jealous. I would love to have 6 weeks in Hilton Head right about now.

The place is crawling with Ohio people, so don't be surprised to bump into someone from around here.

If you have kids and they are coming to visit you have to see Greg Russell in Harbortown.
Just go to Harbortown regardless....we stay there every year.
