I really think the best development in Cincinnati cuisine is the rise of Indian food. I was talking to a friend from Omaha (yes, smaller than Cincy, but still a large city) who said he doesn't think they have one Indian restaurant.

Cincinnati must have 30. And that's important because it keeps prices low and quality up.

Shaan is delicious and convenient for east siders. Definitely recommend it.

I recently went to Deep in Clifton. Naan and delicious Tikka Masala for $9. It's very casual (serve dishes in styrofoam).

It seems like a lot of people get stuck in a rut going to older Indian restaurants (amol, baba, ambar, etc..). The newer places like Shaan and Deep are cheaper and the quality just as good, if not better.

I think one of the most unfortunate things is the lack of Mexican food. What is better for a hangover than some great greasy burritos and chips with guacamole? That was one of my disappointments in the four years living in Cincinnati.

I think that stems from the fact that Cincy has a relatively small immigrant population from Mexico.

El Jinete on Red Bank near the new Wal Mart is a pleasant surprise. I've been there twice. The food is really good and the service is great. I haven't heard of anyone having a bad experience there. El Toro, in Hyde Park Plaza is an interesting alternative. It can be crowded. It's a decent option to Don Pablos.

Taco Casa in Hyde Park is good too.

Has anyone been to this "Five Guys" place in Rookwood? I think it's a burger joint. No way it's better than Zip's or Quatman's or Arthur's.
