I was traveling and didn't see this game live. My cell phone started blowing up, which gave away the ending before I could see it. I think I was as upset about the spoiler as I was about the result.

Anyway, it's several years later, and I still have one question that I would love to know the answer to. The timekeeper did not have a stopwatch. What the hell was he doing during the timeouts?? Counting to himself?? I have this scenario in my head where the timekeeper shows up without really wanting to be there, realizes he doesn't have the stopwatch, decides that he can get away with it and that no one will notice if he just counts to himself, and then almost makes it but screws it all up in the last minute and everything goes to shit.

There was nothing unlucky about this from Xavier's standpoint. Butler's preparation met it's opportunity. If you win, you deserve to.

Speaking of broken clocks, this is a similar story from the Olympics today

I wonder what the reaction on the Butler board would be to such a story.

I was there. I st next to some Butler fans high up in the lower section, midcourt.

First and foremost, it was a thrilling game. I loved that there were vocal supporters for both teams, so it was an audible overload you seldom get in college games any more.

X was not scoring early, but scrapped and stayed in the game. When Crawford started throwing things in from 25 feet under pressure, it was as good as it gets for me in the college game.

The end was disappointing. but I don't think the officials made a wrong call given the errors on the part of the clock guy. The Butler fans around me were as mystified as we were about what had happened.

I just agree to disagree that pulling a water fountain out of the wall was justified or appropriate. It's a game, not a mortal combat.

There is a subtext to the Holloway post game theatrics about going into the stands for some ahat, and the water fountain outburst. Why wasn't that a learning moment for the Xavier staff and players about how to handle adversity? Three years later, Holloway is still using bad judgment at the end of the UC fiasco, then absolutely botches the presser. Urban Meyer, in disciplining Stonebreaker at OSU, has talked about the 10 second rule.......count to ten before you do something stupid. I would hope that part of a Xavier education for athletes is to find appropriate outlets for frustration.

I'm still going to go to Hinkle for games. W can get tickets in numbers and make a lot of noise on the road. Boycotting really helps no one and "punishes" no one.
It's a still great day to be a Muskie, but a sad day to be a supporting member of this board.

    I like it.
"He's a little bit ball-dominant, he needs to have the ball in his hands, and he's not a good shooter." Ball-dominant … isn't that a nice way of calling someone a ball hog? Where is my Jay Bilas Thesaurus?
