Covers Better Than Originals

The Who may be GOAT status for me when it comes to rock bands.

Saw a documentary on them about 15 years ago. I was surprised when Townshend said he wanted Daltrey out of band early on because he wasn’t showing much emotion on the stage. Pete said something like “he is just a singer in the band for crying out loud.” And of course all that changed with Tommy.

Daltrey and Townshend clashed quite a bit over the years. I once read that Page wasn't too sure about Plant early on either, because he thought he was a country bumpkin. Page considered replacing him with Steve Winwood. Thank God cooler heads prevailed in each case.

Not a fan. If we're talking about a cover of Money, I'd take Dave Matthew's as my number one:

That was pretty good! Actually, I thought Matthew's voice was quite similar to Gilmour's on this. The Flaming Lips did an entire cover of DSotM a few years ago. Overall, I'm not a big fan of it, but there are a few very interesting points within the album.

Heard Bowie’s version at Dayton’s Hara arena during his 1974 Diamond Dogs tour. Very well done although Mott the Hoople’s version is a great listen.

This is the live version I'm thinking of - from his Reality tour. Mott's version is great, I just think the live version with the crowd singing along with the chorus really makes it.

Nice find, Chico! It is a great song; and Bowie’s unique vocals really make his version quite enjoyable. Thanks for sharing!
