    FC Cincinnati

Is there really no FC Cincinnati thread? Did I just miss it? This team is so much fun right now. Between them, the Reds right now, the Bengals, and the return of Sean Miller to X this town is becoming one hell of a sports mecca right now

Last night was a heck of a win considering the team was missing 5 or 6 starters. It is a great time for sports in Cincinnati.

This town is on fire right now.

I really hope the Reds can remain competitive through the summer.

FC Cincinnati sits at the top of the table in the Eastern conference. They have had a great season so far.

What a fun time to be a Cincinnati sports fan.

I just wish the MLS was on a more "mainstream" TV network.

Apple TV has games for free each week, so you are probably getting the same number of free MLS games as you were when they were on ESPN and Fox (plus some games still air on ESPN and Fox). As far as locally, it sucks they are not on Star 64 any more, but my understanding is that FCC was basically paying to have the games aired there.

My biggest gripe with Apple TV is that 99% of games all start at the same time (7:30pm locally), so you don't get random games to watch throughout your weekend.

I've been a huge soccer fan my whole life. Literally. And every city I've lived in has gotten big time into soccer AFTER I've left.

While a student at Xavier me and a friend of mine drove up to Columbus to watch a World Cup Qualifier on closed circuit TV. Neither of us were 21, but we hoped they'd let us in anyway. At first they didn't, but then the whole bar (many of whom had also driven several hours to be there), started to chant "LET THEM IN!! LET THEM IN!!" So, they relented and let us in, but told us not to drink. Yeah...right!

Cincinnati used to have the Kings, which was a PDL team. There'd be about 50-100 people at each game, and you never knew exactly where the game was going to be.

I cannot believe the sport ever became popular in this country. I always thought it would be like rugby, or lacrosse, or sports like that. It would have an EXTREMELY committed core group of fans, but that's all it would have. And...I was kind of fine with that. It sort of made it feel like it was more your own. in some ways it sucked having to drive to another city to watch a game being broadcast in another languages, but at the same time it was also pretty cool. You felt an instant connection with everyone else who was there and did the same thing. Those days are long gone. That would NEVER happen today. Now there are people that I knew from when I used to live there that go to FCC games that didn't even know what soccer was at the time. I don't know how, or exactly when, this all happened.

That being said, this is pretty cool! FCC should get to the CONCACAF Champions League next year, and that should grow their brand even more.

I hate FIFA more than I hate the NCAA, and while it's not quite as bad as it used to be, I hate the USSF almost as much as I hate FIFA. But despite how selfish and stupid both of them are, the sport's popularity has grown in the US. There's no denying that.

It did not surprise me that Cincinnati would embrace FCC.

Cincinnati is around the 36 largest TV market in the US. Yet when the World Cup or the Olympics are on television, Cincinnati is typically in the top 5 in viewership for both men's and women's soccer. In the last World Cup, Cincinnati was #1 in viewership in the nation.

I thought moving to the MLS and building a huge stadium was a huge risk when they did it. Would the fanbase that used to walk through Clifton to Nippert follow them downtown? Would it price out the fanbase? Would it no longer be a college like event and die from lack of interest now that it wasn't at UC? I think another year of being last might have been the final straw, but then last year happened and now this year. I think that risk has been shown to be well worth it. Sometimes ownership takes a gamble and the outcome is phenomenal. The team is really good and the fans are awesome. Well done FCC. Well done.

I was actually impressed by the attendance when FC was doing poorly. More than I would have expected but yeah, they needed to turn things around.

The tipping point in my opinion is that virtually everyone 50 and under played soccer as a kid. The percentage of females is ridiculous. Probably 90%. Male participation as a kid is likely in the 50-60% range. Some play football or simply dont play sports. So, you have a HUGE base of fans that can relate to the game. They understand it and can enjoy attending or watching a game.
