    There’s a whole forum that’s Xavier-centric

The IARP is supposed to hand down their ruling on Memphis this morning. This happened so long ago that I had actually forgotten about it. But, it was the whole James Wiseman/Penny Hardaway thing. You may recall that whole debacle. But then again this was all pre-covid, so maybe you don't recall it. It was a while ago.

The IARP, which was supposed to expedite all this stuff, seems to actually always take longer.

Didn't James Wiseman play in like one game for Memphis?

I think two. And it was two buy games.

From what I recall he was declared ineligible and they played him anyway. They tried to get an injunction against the NCAA, or something to that effect, and when that failed they finally pulled him off the court.

I can say with quite a bit of confidence that the decision to play him AFTER he had been declared ineligible was not a unanimous one. There were those in their department that thought it was a very stupid thing to do. I guess we'll see what happens today.

So much to unpack here. Are a lot of the rules stupid? Yes. But was it stupid not to follow them and risk getting a lot of people into a lot of trouble and potentially totally kamikazing your entire athletics department?? I'd say...yes.

    The verdict is in.

3 years probation, a $5000 fine, and they have to vacate the THREE games (not two, my mistake) that he played in.

For four level 1 violations, that's pretty light. But, perhaps that isn't a bad thing. No postseason ban. No show cause or suspension for Penny Hardaway. Just a $5000 fine and they have to pretend they didn't win the three games that he played in.

The thing that actually sucks the most for the department is the probation. That most likely means an NCAA audit every year. But the fans and coaches don't really give a shit about that, so...

From what I saw on a Memphis TV station report, the findings were not labeled as Level 1.

Depends on who you ask. The NCAA says they were, but the NCAA didn't hear the case.

Two things we've learned about the IARP....

    1) They are slow
    2) They are lenient

I don't really have an opinion on that. That's just my assessment. They're slow, but lenient. Okay.

This hasn't been mentioned yet (probably because it's not THAT important), but they've restructured the media timeouts. There are still five per half, but the second half no longer has the floating timeout. So, it's

1st Half - U16, U12, U8, U4, floating timeout (first almost always the first called timeout)

    2nd Half - U17, U14, U11, U8, U4

I know it doesn't really matter that much. Nothing has really changed. There are still five timeouts per half. But, I was so used to the way it was before that I kind of liked it that way. But...whatever.

I now watch a lot of games on the DVR. With the ten media timeouts, the 15 minute half, and the rest of the team timeouts, if you start watching a game 40 minutes after it tips off, you'll catch up to live action before it's over.
