I don’t know how many remember this, but 2 years ago Xavier Golf had a kid named Garret Wood win the Individual Big East Tournament Title. He went on to play in the NCAA Tournament in Spring 2019.
For reasons still unclear, he decided to transfer to U of Kentucky. It was a surprise even to his parents.
It has not gone well.
In 2020 he only played in 5 events and had a higher stroke average than at Xavier. This year-as a Senior- he’s on the roster but can’t even get on the course. What a fall from the heights.
The grass isn’t always greener, kids.

It’s not like Xavier’s golf program has been great though since Steiner retired. He is greatly missed!

There is a long and not pleasant story about that.
I love Doug and he got screwed. Period.
I made sure to text him Congrats when Jay Kokrak finally won his first Tournament and we still communicate.
There is a lot I can say, but not on here."I Got CHAMPIONS in that Lockerroom!" -Stanley Burrell

I am friends with Brian McCants. Good guy. Took him to an Indians game up here one time when he was up here recruiting and to dinner another time.
He’s trying to keep many of us supporters apprised of what is going on. He does not have the recruiting budget that Bobinski gave Doug though.
Despite the beautiful Golf Practice facility at Maketewah, that was mostly privately funded as arranged by Doug, it seems Christopher has decided to de-emphasize the Golf Program. It’s a damn shame when you have a great potential rep in Kokrak successful on the tour.
Just a shame."I Got CHAMPIONS in that Lockerroom!" -Stanley Burrell
