Often, I've been in charge of bringing "an extra" to holiday meals. This year was different. On Christmas day, I was in charge of preparing the main course, and several side items. The main winner for value, taste, and "take home if you like" was Kroger Spiral Ham (brown sugar glaze). For over 11 lbs, it was one HELL of deal at $8.50. And I'm still making soups (sauerkraut, green bean). Forgive me, I'm half German.
Runner Up: Black Tiger Shrimp Cocktail Tray (also Kroger). I'm normally not a cocktail sauce fan, but this stuff was sweet and tangy. Absolutely delicious.
Honorable mentions: (1) Palmetto Original Gourmet Pimento Cheese (a Hilton Head favorite within the family). (2) $1 Italian bread loaf from Walmart (great to pair with the spiral ham left overs).
Also made a cheesy hashbrown potato dish that turned out fantastic.
Time to get some exercise.
Any suggestions or great meals you've had over the holidays? I may need ideas for next year.

We had the bacon wrapped filets from King Sooper (Kroger) individually packaged and only $5 each. Very tasty. Traditional green bean casserole with french fried onions and, of course, loads of fluffy mashed potatoes and a mixed fruit jello salad. We got the spiral ham also for sandwiches and ham salad. have to try the shrimp.

We did an early Christmas with our son and his vegetarian wife since they went to Florida a week in advance to see her family. For Christmas Eve we had friends in town from Florida. No worries abut vegans or vegetarians or gluten or dairy free. No “I don’t eat seafood other than shellfish” or “chicken and fish are OK, but I won’t do red meat”. When did the world get so picky? It was a rare case where I got to make whatever I wanted for some good old fashion carnivores!
We had 8 oz beef tenderloins cooked sous vide at 134.5 degrees. After a few hours, when we felt like eating they were seared on a sizzling hot cast iron grill pan and the patio grill (to avoid smoking up the house). There was a nice red wine reduction demi-glace to go with the steaks, plus some big fat grilled asparagus (olive oil, s/p and a touch of fresh lemon juice at the end), and roasted new potatoes.
I had bought an apple pie, but my wife would have none of that. She makes an awesome apple pie so we gave the store bought on away.
It was a lovely meal, and refreshing to not have any limitations imposed upon the menu!

Side dish
Cut a Mozzarella cheese ball in half, put a jalapeno inside. Put Goetta around the cheese ball then bread it(flour and egg/bread crumbs, however you like it). You can put it in the oven or deep fry it.Balls of Steele!!

After making a full traditional Thanksgiving for 2, we decided to be lazy and just order in food. If you haven't tried the DOMO at Home delivery yet, I highly recommend it (https://www.exploretock.com/domoathome/). The Soto Lasagna Bolognese is incredible.

We had brunch after opening gifts. Breakfast pizza, cherry & cream cheese pastries, caramel pecan cinnamon rolls, apple, pear & cranberry marinated fruit salad, cheesy hash brown potato casserole, Mimosas, bloody marys, and coffee.

Does bourbon count as a food "winner" over the holidays?
If so, count me in....he went up late, and I was already up there.

I have never tried, but I checked out the description online... will be checking out soon.
Out of reps to give to 82, so a public +1. It's hard to cook when you are limited, especially during the holidays. Pork is a no-no in my fam, this year was different (given guests).
Damn. This sounds sooo good. Making a note. Thanks!
If I didn't have such an allergy to sugar, this may be the perfect way to celebrate Christmas (as far as food is concerned). Well done my friend.
With side dishes, we all need a main course. Well done Mr. Paul XU.
