NBA Draft- Tyrique

I was casually looking at a Mock NBA draft on NBAdraft.net, and noticed that Tyrique is projected to go #58 overall to Philly.

Had to do a double take on that. Loved him as a college player, but it's my observation that the NBA is looking for bigs that can make jumpers, unless of course their size is just overwhelming. good luck to Tyrique!

Side note is that Marshall is not projected to be drafted. I see the NBA potential in him, figure he'll make it eventually,.

The NBA is also looking for wings who can shoot. Naji does not at this point fit that model.

Defensively Jones is a good fit for a fast-paced small ball lineup at the 5. Offensively he’s pretty limited to screen and roll or GTFOOTW during iso plays. The draft is pretty weak and shallow so if there’s a draft either guy could be selected this is it.

The NBA is also looking for wings who can shoot. Naji does not at this point fit that model.

Naji is capable of playing good defense. He can finish in transition. He can score 1-on-1. He has a bunch of checkmarks on the plus side. He's not a terrible 3 pt shooter, and could improve that area.

towards the back end of the draft, all the guys have at least one area that the NBA is looking for and they don't have.

Time will tell, I guess....

I'm not sure he is much of a 1-on-1 NBA scorer. If for no other reason he can't dribble too well. His best bet is a 3 and D guy. I think we see Gates in the NBA before Naji.

Hope the best for both of them, I know they will each make money playing basketball.

Some of you are harsh! Just about everyone in the 2nd round of the draft has serious flaws.

Jones doesn't have to sell tickets or light up the scoreboard if a team likes him as a situational role player. He excels in defense and rebounding. He demonstrated his eliteness in those areas against top-level Big East competition, and furthermore has NBA body and athleticism. If he develops into a passable midrange shooter and can hit a few FTs, he's got a chance to stick in the league for a few years. Not to be a starter or log tons of minutes (which would require much better scoring ability and/or 3 pt range), but to play a situational role. That's a respectable career in basketball.

Naji similarly lacks a natural position in the League because of his lack of range, but has a chance to make it as a role player for the same kinds of reasons. Even against NBA competition, he would bring energy off the bench and occasional playmaking ability at both ends of the floor. A team with a deeper roster might value a luxury player like Naji or Tyrique as a developmental 11th or 12th man, similar to a utility infielder in MLB. Both of these guys deserve a look and probably a chance to prove themselves in the D League.
