The Best Basketball Player In College History at Every Jersey Number

    Link

Thanks to the NCAA rule book, players have only 37 options when it comes to choosing a jersey number. Any single-digit rendering or double-digit combination of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 is acceptable. Conversely, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are prohibited.

This was not always the case. Bill Russell, for example, famously wore No. 6 for San Francisco six-plus decades ago while winning back-to-back national titles. (Scroll to the bottom.) But by the late 1950s, the 0-through-5 rule already held sway from coast to coast, as revealed by the

for North Carolina's 1957 national championship team. The rule was instituted to simplify hand signaling by officials to the scorer's table when a player is whistled for a foul.

Here are the best college basketball players to ever wear each of the NCAA's 37 allowed jersey numbers (plus a look at a few that are no longer eligible).

I have not had time to wade through the entire article. But thought others might enjoy.

"He's a little bit ball-dominant, he needs to have the ball in his hands, and he's not a good shooter." Ball-dominant isn't that a nice way of calling someone a ball hog? Where is my Jay Bilas Thesaurus?

Can't really complain about Steph Curry over David West, but it was good to see West at least get consideration. But Byron Larkin was robbed! :)

There's some recency bias for sure. That said, I think we all know who was getting #23.

I am going to say in a million years Buddy Hield was not better than Mark Aguirre.

And fucking McDermott over Iverson and Wade? Come on.

    How about #33

    Kareem
    Bird
    Magic
    Shaq
    Grant Hill
    Ewing

    wow...

You could almost take a starting 5 just from #33 over college history and beat any other 5 put together.

There was a pretty awesome player from X that donned the number 33! Granted (pun intended) not in same class as Bird, magic, and Lew but pretty damn good.

Magic had to change his college number 33 to 32 when he played for the Lakers. Some guy named Kareem was wearing 33.
