Google the Bruce Sutter contract with the Braves. It's just as bad.

I used to follow baseball quite closely. I knew who played for which team, who was in what place in the divisions and how many games to play with how many games to play, "magic numbers", what the leader board was for every important statistical category (of course, there were far fewer and more straight--forward), even many minor leaguer's and how their teams were doing.

Between free agency, arbitration (which, I believe was more responsible than free agency for the ballooning salaries) and the great chasm between the haves and have-nots (teams and players), I am only mildly interested in even the Reds much less the rest of the league.

Every time a new contract came out I would say, "This is unsustainable... this can not last...this will ruin baseball"!

That was decades ago. It ruined the sport for me. But, obviously, it is doing very well without my support.

    I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I drink 2XS.
