Wound up kicking their red asses 13-4.
This team is an enigma. They’ve played a really tough schedule that should have steeled them, but they’ve blown some games that they had in the bag.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out-especially against Creighton.

Xavier leading 2-1 through 7 innings after a 2-run, 2-out double in the 7th inning. Finish this one, guys.

Two game lead on the Big East pack now with that victory. Next Big East series will be this upcoming weekend when they host Seton Hall. The Pirates took 2 of 3 at home against Butler and are currently in 4th place in the conference.

Big shocker this weekend was Georgetown sweeping St. John's at home. That now puts the Hoyas in 3rd behind Creighton and St. John's all the way down to 5th. The Muskies' sweep of Georgetown suddenly looks even more impressive.

Xavier's RPI is up to 40, which would put them in a position to get an at large bid if they don't win the Big East Championship. IF they can get their overall record over .500. No one gets a bid under .500 and XU is 19-24 right now. Important to sweep 'Nova and The Hall, beat Miami again, and win 2 or 3 vs SucKS in the season ending series.

That's crazy on the high RPI. I think we're essentially hosed with respect to an at-large given the overall record, but it would certainly be nice to have that Texas series back! Hell, we could have swept them and be 22-21 with a sweep of Texas right now! Some of the mid-week clunkers also hurt. But the schedule the rest of the year also means the RPI is probably not going to rise much more. On the plus side, hopefully it means the record will improve.

In any event, I think we were all pointed towards a Big East tournament championship as the goal, and that is obviously still right there for the having. As a bonus, that RPI means Xavier would likely be a #3 seed instead of a #4 if we get there.

Side note: the Big East ranks as the #17 baseball conference according to the RPI.

RPI will sink like a stone with games against bottom feeders like Villanova still to come (as well as an awful NKU team this week). Winning 2 of 3 at Creighton really helped, but the goal at this point is simply to win the Big East regular season crown and tournament.

St. John's also had an RPI similar to Xavier going into the weekend, but they crashed into triple digits after getting swept at Georgetown.
