We're the only team left undefeated at home.
It's a still great day to be a Muskie, but a sad day to be a supporting member of this board.

Did you have to bring that up before two of our toughest home games this week?

Golf is a relatively simple game, played by reasonably intelligent people, stupidly.

I was thinking the same. I would say these are the two toughest home games of the entire season.

Seton Hall is a wounded animal right now - this is their last opportunity to really make a major jump up the seed list if they can pull a road win Wednesday night. They CANNOT be overlooked before Nova comes to town this weekend.

They get Villanova at home too, but yes, they are dangerous. Current projections for them are 9-9 after dropping games to Marquette and Georgetown. Ouch.

Standings this week (2 weeks to go):

    VILLANOVA (+4) - W at DePaul, W at St. John's, W at Georgetown, W at Marquette, W at Xavier, L vs. St. John's
XAVIER (+4) - W at Marquette, W at Seton Hall, W at St. John's, W at Butler, W at Creighton, L vs. Villanova
    PROVIDENCE (+1) - W at St. John's, W at Marquette, W at DePaul, L vs. Marquette, L vs. DePaul
    CREIGHTON (+1) - W at Georgetown, W at St. John's, W at DePaul, L vs. Xavier, L vs. Marquette
BUTLER (0) - W at Georgetown, W at DePaul, W at Marquette, L vs. Seton Hall, L vs. Xavier, L vs. Georgetown
SETON HALL (0) - W at Butler, W at DePaul, L vs. Xavier, L vs. Marquette
MARQUETTE (-1) - W at Providence, W at Seton Hall, W at Creighton, L vs. Xavier, L vs. Villanova, L vs. Butler, L vs. Providence
GEORGETOWN (-1) - W at DePaul, W at St. John's, W at Butler, L vs. Butler, L vs. Creighton, L vs. Villanova, L vs. DePaul
ST. JOHN"S (-4) - W at Villanova, W at DePaul, L vs. Providence, L vs. Georgetown, L vs. DePaul, L vs. Villanova, L vs. Creighton, L vs. Xavier
DEPAUL (-4) - W at St. John's, W at Georgetown, W at Providence, L vs. Villanova, L vs. Georgetown, L vs. Providence, L vs. Butler, L vs. Seton Hall, L vs. Creighton, L vs. St. John's

And this is how the Big East tournament would look if the season ended today - for this exercise, we'll give Villanova the 1 seed since they're tied with Xavier in the loss column and own head-to-head:

    FIRST ROUND
    Game 1: (8) Georgetown vs. (9) St. John's
    Game 2: (7) Marquette vs. (10) DePaul

    QUARTERFINAL ROUND
    Game 3: (1) Villanova vs. Georgetown/St. John's
    Game 4: (4) Creighton vs. (5) Butler
    Game 5: (2) Xavier vs. Marquette/DePaul
Game 6: (3) Providence vs. (6) Seton Hall

    SEMIFINAL ROUND
    Game 7: VU/GU/SJU vs. CU/BU
    Game 8: XU/MU/DEP vs. PC/SH

    CHAMPIONSHIP
    Game 9: Semifinal winners

This is a silver lining in that Xavier doesn't have the live wire Georgetown and St. John's teams on their half of the bracket at the moment. Seton Hall has a tough schedule remaining with roadies at Providence and St. John's along with home games against Nova and Butler. Marquette could still leapfrog Seton Hall and get out of the first round; their remaining games are home vs. St. John's, at DePaul, at Georgetown and home against Creighton.

    Game 8: VU/MU/SJU vs. SH/PC

*NOTE: With a 4-way tie for 3rd at the moment, Seton Hall is #3 by virtue of a 4-1 record against the group. Creighton is 3-3; Butler is 2-3 and Providence is 2-4.

And here is everyone's remaining schedule:

    Xavier - Providence, at DePaul
Villanova - at Seton Hall, Georgetown
    Seton Hall - Villanova, Butler
    Creighton - DePaul, at Marquette
Butler - at St. John's, at Seton Hall

What are our chances of getting St. John's instead of Georgetown?? I really don't want to see them in the Big East Tournament, Shamorie Ponds is a nightmare, and they've played us way too close for comfort.

Right now, St. John's is on the Villanova side of the bracket. I honestly think their mojo dissipated with their time off last week. They ended up losing at Marquette and at home against Seton Hall this week. I don't see them winning any of their last 2 regular-season games.
