Villanova starts off with the easiest road schedule in the conference: DePaul, SJU, and Georgetown. They should improve to +3 pretty easily. Xavier, meanwhile, starts with Marquette, Providence, Villanova, and Seton Hall in the same time span. A win at Seton Hall would be huge for the standings, because the road gets so much easier after that, while Villanova starts playing all their tough road games.

Both Seton Hall and Xavier have tougher road wins under their belts. Marquette also has a good win at Providence but that was negated when Xavier won up in Milwaukee. Butler and Providence have both cashed in on easier road wins but have also dropped a home game as well.

    Standings this week:

    VILLANOVA (+3) - W at DePaul, W at St. John's, W at Georgetown
XAVIER (+2) - W at Marquette, W at Seton Hall
    CREIGHTON (+1) - W at Georgetown
BUTLER (+1) - W at Georgetown, W at DePaul, L vs. Seton Hall
    PROVIDENCE (0) - W at St. John's, L vs. Marquette
SETON HALL (0) - W at Butler, L vs. Xavier
    MARQUETTE (0) - W at Providence, L vs. Xavier
    GEORGETOWN (-1) - W at DePaul, W at St. John's, L vs. Butler, L vs. Creighton, L vs. Villanova
    DEPAUL (-3) - W at St. John's, L vs. Villanova, L vs. Georgetown, L vs. Providence, L vs. Butler
    ST. JOHN"S (-3) - L vs. Providence, L vs. Georgetown, L vs. Villanova

Needless to say, yesterday's win was big in that Xavier has clearly put themselves in the #2 hole. Seton Hall fell back to the pack, but both teams will still have the benefit of padding their records with games at Georgetown, St. John's and DePaul still to come in the second half of conference play. Butler moved up with their road win at DePaul.

Nova has yet to play away games @Providence, Seton Hall, X and Creighton. Two losses are possible.
It's a still great day to be a Muskie, but a sad day to be a supporting member of this board.

Xavier still has the best pair of road wins so far this conference schedule. Anyone else with at least two road wins needs to include St. John's, Georgetown, or DePaul among their top two. I'm sure that is in part a function of opportunities against top 7 teams, but still, it's good for separation from teams 3 through 7.

Speaking of separation, this week is huge in that regard. X play their remaining two top 7 road games. Each game is big for the tournament resume (undisputed Tier 1 games), and a win against either Butler or Creighton counts double in the +/- standings. If X sweeps this week (*crosses fingers*), they all but guarantee a top two finish in the league for the second time in three years. The only realistic challengers left would be Seton Hall and Providence, who are both two losses back and who both have to play X at home still.

Yeah, a sweep this week would be almost impossibly amazing. I'd be thrilled with one win. Even splitting this week would put us in excellent shape for #2 in the league.

But that sweep, man, we'd be realistically thinking about winning the league (or at least a share) and #1 NCAA Tournament seeds. Serious helium.

I’ll be happy with a 2-2 split over the next 4 games. I’m guessing wins at Butler and Seton Hall at home with losses at Creighton and Villanova here.

Golf is a relatively simple game, played by reasonably intelligent people, stupidly.

Yup. Also, I just want to sweep Butler, as that brings me joy independent of resumes.
