#1) Mick's players are still better athletes than shooters. You need shooters in the NCAA Tourney or bye bye
#2) the ranking of Mick's teams are deceiving because they climb polls due to the fact they have so many wins because they don't play anybody. The committee realizes this at the end of the year by rewarding a 30 win team with a 6 seed. Polls though do not work like that.

I'm SOOOOO done with the narrative that "gangsters" and "body bag" and "zip 'em up" have no room in sports. It is such a racist/ageist/pollyanna reaction to the same type of language that has pervaded sports lexicon for a LONG time and which no one seems to have a problem with. "Dagger"? What are we supposing that dagger is intended to be doing....that's right stabbing someone. "Warrior" "Assassin" "Sharpshooter" "Killing" "Annihilate" There are ton of other terms, but ALL of these terms have one thing in common: they are about hurting/killing your opponent. The terms Tu/Lyons used are NO different, it's just the white/older/urbane seem to have an issue with them because they are new...or black....or whatever. Get over it folks (not necessarily you guys). Sorry of the rant, i work with a ton of Dayton fans who often throw that out there like it is some huge insult or disparaging comment. I'm seeing the same crap from UC fans now. It is stupid. It's OK to be a "Sniper" but not a "gangster"? It's ok to destroy your opponent, "kill" and "annihilate" them, but put 'em in body bags is somehow immoral. They're the same f*%king metaphors!
Anyway...again...sorry for the rant. Just had to get that off my chest somewhere. :)Last edited by Muskeagle; 12-06-2017 at 09:15 AM.

A couple things here. First, Mick has never had a top 15 team (or top 20) per Kenpom. Hes had 3 top 30 teams in 11 years, but never cracked the top 20. Second, I dont think Mack is a significantly better regular season coach than Mick. Both have been pretty similar if you compare the numbers. The difference between the two comes from a couple things. First is Mack gets better recruits, which gives his teams higher upside. Its easier to get better as the season goes on when you have better players. It gives you more options for adjustments. Second, is Mack is an offensive coach and Mick is defensive. Defensive teams are consistent and tend to do well in the regular season but struggle in the postseason. Offensive teams can ratchet up their defense in the postseason via greater intensity and game planning. Defensive teams have a harder time becoming good offensively when they need to be.
Mick is a really good coach he just hasnt succeeded at the highest level due to some limitations. Other defensive coached have has simmilar issues. Bennett and Huggins come to mind.

You must have read this gem of an exchange from kittycattalk.com this morning:

Response:
This has really nothing to do with the game, but what I hate is that X fans don't really embrace it. Or, the "narrative" is that X is the plucky little underdog still. They run out teams full of punks and cons and everyone talks about them like they're the second coming of Ward Cleaver.
The narratives never cease to amaze me from their end....Helping X keep it classy since '96

Mick abjectly SucKS as a coach- especially on the offensive side of the ball. Didn’t you watch that game Saturday? Mickey Mouses whole offense was throw the ball to Gary Clark and when Kaiser shut his ass down, it was back to the “chuck and rebound plus get steals off turnover” offense. XU ruled the boards and handled the press so The Jaundiced Leprechaun had no other answers. His late/postseason record is what it is because he can’t schedule Tournament cupcakes and his teams are easily defended. Mick is a mediocre to poor coach who fattens up on cream puffs and a crap conference.

Ya, know. Maybe all these BoreCat fans were set off immediately by Tyrique's flex after the first baskets. How quickly they forget KMart's more evident flex in front of the camera in the 1999 Shootout- which SucKS of course also lost when they were Number 1.
They have a lot of short memories over there because they have limited brain power anyway. #Cretins"I Got CHAMPIONS in that Lockerroom!" -Stanley Burrell
