Jason got the dreaded MDF designation at the Houston Open. If you're not familiar with that, it's Made Cut, Did Not Finish. If too many people make the cut (70 players plus ties), the PGA Tour drops down one stoke and those on the cut line are sent packing. They do get some money, but I'm guessing it's not much.

That was the rule from approximately 2008 to approximately 2016. The current rule, for regular PGA Tour events, is that the top 70 and ties after round two make the cut, irrespective of number of players, and all make money and FedEx points. However, if that number is greater than 78, you have a second cut after round three, and only the top 70 and ties at that time play round 4, and the designation is MDF. That is what happened to Jason.

This is correct, he still got paid ($12K but only 2 FedEx Cup Points)

One notable change in the PGA Tour schedule in 2019 - the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational that's normally played at Akron's Firestone CC will be moving to Memphis and be rebranded as the WGC/FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Memphis normally has hosted the aforementioned FedEx St. Jude Invitational the week before the US Open, but it has yet to be determined who will be hosting the PGA Tour the week before the Open now.

They will have the Senior Players Championship at Firestone next year only as a makeup of sorts.

Meanwhile, this week is the final week that The Players Championship will be played on Mother's Day weekend - they're moving the event back to March next season while the PGA Championship moves up to May during Memorial Day weekend.

As to the present time, Jason Kokrak is -2 overall through 14 holes at Sawgrass - he's -2 today and 2 shots above the cut line at the moment. The field is also shaping up to have a number of MDFs for tomorrow as well.

He finished the day -3. Hopefully he has a couple decent rounds this weekend along with a bigger payday and FedEx Cup point total.

Webb Simpson looks like the runaway leader for the event so far.

That’s going to take some getting used to. The PGA seems like it’s always been the last of the Grand Slam events.

Will the Memorial be in the following week after the PGA? Seems crowded.
...he went up late, and I was already up there.

The Memorial Tournament will be in the same slot, Paul. However, the tournament after that which is normally in Memphis will move to August in what is currently Akron-Firestone's spot.
