Third time? I don't remember the other two. He had a clearinghouse issue, but those are generally not the players' fault. What was the other issue?

Maybe Jalen is simply not the studying type. Doesn't necessarily mean he is lazy, some people just have difficulties with books. He needs to spend more time and efforts than others just to pass. Urgent call to Sister Rose! Him suspended and SC has toe problems, our lineup is facing new challenges.

Reactions to suspension have to be my favorite things on Xavier messageboard.
16 posts in and Jalen is already a lazy person that has chronic grade problems. By post 40 he will be punching horses.
The NCAA certifies eligibility at every semester. If it is a grade problem what would have been announced today is that Jalen is ineligible. Xavier is smart enough not to drag it out and make it a 2 part deal. Beyond that, it is almost inappropriate that Shannon lumped in the academic part when she wrote her story. Ineligibility out of high school includes many factors in addition to GPA and test scores, the most important of which being correct course selection. I am not sure what caused Jalen to have to sit out a year, but after reading the story about Myles Davis I tend not to point the finger at the kid as quickly as I used to.
Mack used the work “responsibilities” 3-4 times in the release. To me, “not handling responsibilities means” being late, forgetting meetings, etc. If it is 10 years ago / pre twitter this is probably something we don’t even hear about.

Jalen Reynolds Suspended....
Step back from the ledge folks. Learning moment for Jalen and the rest of the team. Better nipped in the bud when he's a role (at best) player. Jalen's future -- as a Muskie -- is bright. Kudos to Chris and the admin for working to get him on the right track early.

I'm really not worried at all. He probably skipped a few classes or study halls.
My guess is he gets suspended for Seton Hall and Villanova, and possibly gets back for the Providence game in 1.5 weeks.

Oh c'mon. If he wasn't working hard in practice, he probably wouldn't be playing at all. Maybe he's not getting more playing time because he has Stainbrook, Philmore and Farr in front of him. He certainly has passed Stenger on the depth chart. (Maybe Stenger is lazy since he's not playing anymore. Was Farr lazy last year when he wasn't playing? Landon Amos must be lazy too.) But we don't know why he got suspended but the best guess is that he missed some classes or some mandatory study halls. Or maybe it he was late for a team meeting or two. Maybe he got drunk at Danas. We don't know. But stop calling him "lazy". That is total speculation and totally unfair.

Casual fan, he did not qualify out of high and school and out of prep school because of a lack of a core class. Had nothing to do with grades it had to with taking a class you need for college. And it turned out that the class he took in Prep School, he had taken in high school, but the transcripts did not reach Xavier until 2nd semester. Rule is you cannot get credit a 2nd time for a class you got credit for already. Therefore he had to sit out last year because of that one class. Not his fault, not Xavier's fault. One of the schools he went to did not give Xavier his transcripts until it was to late to change course. It's a problem on the high school level when kids transfer to another school for the sports. I got all this first hand from our old AD Bobinski. He will be fine. Remember he has worn the "Gold" jersey at least twice this year.

Agreed. Definitely a pattern, but I'm still not worried about it. He'll figure it out just like a bunch of kids with academic issues have before him.
Whatever the cause is doesn't really matter, Mack knows how to manage and develop his players. What matters is figuring out how to replace his 2.8 PPG!!!
