...your own Xavier Musketeers, fresh off a 64-55 win over Temple. The game was starting to look like Ashley Morris would become the next Xavier killer from the Owls. She played 38 minutes tonight, but the Owls paid dearly for the 2 minutes she was on the bench.
Leading 39-32 with about 12 minutes to go, Xavier ran off a 20-3 run to effectively take control; it was a 13-0 run when Temple finally called timeout. Unlike past Temple games, the Muskies were able to work the ball inside, with Amber, Ta'Shia, and April all having good games in the paint. With Special playing 28 minutes, Jerri's picking up the bulk of the backup PG duties now (she had 39 minutes tonight).
Dayton's next; they'll be shooting for win #20 against Xavier at UD Arena on Thursday night.

Tonight's attendance was 2,402; that was more than what the Miami MEN drew against Toledo today (1,506).

Man, I am so pumped after this win. This was as close to a must win situation as the team will have the rest of the year. A loss would have put this team a game behind Temple (plus the head-to-head matchup loss). X absolutely had to win.
I was in attendance and the crowd was great!
It looked like we were in big trouble with about 15:00 left in the 2nd half with Temple up by 7 and seemingly in control of the game. Then it was the Amber Harris show. When she's under control, she's almost unstoppable at times and this was one of those times. The team as a whole was fantastic in the final 15:00. Special did a great job running the point and scored 9 points for the game. Tudy and April did a good job off the bench again.

Yaa-Hoo!!!!
The box score, play by play tells a great story, XU had their lapse, but certainly aligned themselves and stormed back.
How they did it is expressed in one stat.
62.5% from the field in the second half (and 8-11 from the line was the seal!
But they did so much more than just that!
Defensively, holding Lady Comfort to a very uneasy night (4-8 for 8 points no trips to the line) was a huge accomplishment
Temple, 12 points from 8 players off the bench
XU 17 points from 3 Tudy, Megan and A-Phill
And 36-27 on the boards.
Wow, great win, 2 more in the tough run to go!!!

Could the be the corner-turner we've been waiting for the past two seasons?
Team definitely showed some resolve. Ashley Morris is like the female version of Drew Lavender. I was impressed with her quickness, behind-the-back passes and ability to get the ball to her teammates when they were basically covered.
I thought Special played well. There were a couple of mental gaffs, but for the most part she was solid. Got a little nervous when she hit the floor in the second half near the end of the game and didn't get up right away. Can't lose her now.
When Amber Harris decides to play, she is a game changer. I thought she was going to throw it down on her last breakaway but she passed and went with the finger roll. Need to somehow motivate her to keep it in high gear more often.
Two important games with Dayton and Charlotte to seal the tourney two seed at minimum. Big Joe and the Colonials rolled Richmond today in D.C. They still have to play St. Joe's and Richmond on the road, but the rest it a lay up for the team if unless an uncharacteristic let down occurs.
Dayton and Charlotte are still concerns. Charlotte not as strong as it was last year, but a lot of the same players are back, including Big 'Ol Funky Danielle Burgin.
I also don't like the Fordham LaSalle road trip combo, not so much from the competitive lever, but from the mental level. Team will probably be gone for four straight days and that can lead to lack of concentration.
In summary, still some work to do, but it's looking promising.

Awesome game from Amber last night!!!!! Oh I thought she was going to dunk... I was up out of my seat all game. I saw a lot of fight and passion last night and thats what I love to see... Was it me or did Tudy show a lot of leadership last night! I liked seeing that too....
Um... Since "you" have probably watched Charlotte this year maybe our observation is wrong but I would think Charlotte would have a better record than they do...

We lost our coach to Florida after last season, but they are doing well. I guess they don't quite compare.
Go Niners!

I was thinking more along the lines of this...
49ers Hold On For A 60-58 Win Over St. Bonaventre
Granted, the Bonnies are better, but with last year's key players back, I also thought Charlotte would have a better record. Maybe adjusting to a new coach and system is the reason?
I'm not predicting Xavier gets a cake walk by any stretch, last year's "Stywalt Stinger" game is testament to that, and our ladies in blue still seem to be stricken with bouts of offensive funk.
However, the Temple game is encouraging.
