Cooley to Georgetown per Twitter.
Pitino to SJU great for the BE.
Cooley to Georgetown neutral for BE.
Let's hop Providence can nail their hire.
I hate Pitino, but I'm excited for him to go to St. John's, make them relevant, and absorb repeated ass kickings from Sean Miller!
Does anyone wonder if Val went to ST Johns and Georgetown and said "Hey folks you need to fix two of our marquee programs, We have network negotiations on the horizon".
I'm going to get the popcorn and watch Kevin Ollie 2.0 unfold for St. John's. It's going to be a lot of money for 1 head coach and 1 not-to-coach.
Does DePaul have the lowest paid BE coach?
Used to be the Tin Man who was the lowest paid BE coach - for good reason. Honestly not sure if it's DePaul or Butler now.
Well, thats the first significant Big East win GTown has had in about a decade.
I hope they don't hire the guy from FDU just because he's the guy who just had a run (or the guy from Princeton).
I wonder if Pat Kelsey is looking for a promotion this offseason (not necessarily Providence related; just in general).
With Cooley getting $6 million my guess is Xavier will have to give Sean quite the raise here once the season concludes.
Curious, I checked out red.fans.
There were over 350 posts in past 16 hours on excitement of Pitino new hire.
If they start winning, SJU will get some much improved home attendance numbers. NYers are starving for some BE basketball.
This will help Fox Sports 1 tv contract with BE. Possibly millions of more viewers.
Some other boards I am on use italics as their sarcasm font - works pretty well.
This is really good for the BE. Getting NY excited about college basketball will be big for TV contracts. Combine getting St John's and G-Town having good coaches and the tournament success the BE is on a good roll.
Yes, what price glory. I have already registered my disdain for Pitino no matter how good of a coach he has been. Cooley’s departure from Providence is disappointing as were Miller and Mack from Xavier. The big business aspect of college basketball rears its ugly head. Student-athlete becomes even more of a misnomer as loyalty matter less and less.
Xavier has been no different in regard to the business side; however my loyalty remains as I still believe Sean Miller is a very decent man who just happens to be a very good basketball coach.
Uh huh.
And *some* on this board are mad that they were “allegedly” *promised* 12 years ago that there would NEVER be a ticket price or seat license increase. And *some* are upset that their seating applecart is getting overturned due to the need for increased revenue. Wah, Wah.
The old men yelling at cloud meme fits perfectly here.
(What ever Sean gets paid is worth every Penny)
I mean, how blessed that 10 years ago Xavier was invited into this incredible league?
Father Hoff’s hand ascending gesture was more accurate than even he knew. Top Jimmy had the vision.
Now Xavier is starting a medical school and bringing back football?
The series of Presidents, Athletic Directors, Coaches and Players at MY school is amazing to review. Someday someone will write a book about XU history, starting with when Fr. Mulligan tried to move athletics to D3.
Dr. Bill Daily had better have the title of Savior in that book.
Always remember……..
You really shouldn't place much stock in what this buffoon has to say. I'm rather certain you would be hard-pressed to find any reference on this board where someone was complaining about ticket and/or seat license increases. This is an intelligent group of people and I'm quite certain that everyone here understands that prices go up.
this is EXACTLY it
people being upset b/c they cant sit with all of their friends vs 4 years of hell watching a coach in over his head.
I want to watch WINNING basketball first and foremost
if that costs a little more and we have to move seats every 4-5 years I am all in for that
Where did anyone say on this board that ticket prices would never increase? You just don't get it. It's been said by me and others that Xavier would create fewer problems for people if they just raised prices or seat license costs if they need more money. Doing a reseating is both incredibly inefficient and risks creating a situation where the fans get broken up. It's NOT necessary to increase revenue!! Get it now, MOR??
They reconfigured the seats. I am so confused why it is hard to understand that they would need to go through a reseating process if some seats no longer exist.
It isn't like they decided to just randomly make everyone reseat for more revenue. They made a decision about the seat configuration to improve Cintas and it eliminated certain seats.
I don't think so. I recall, and participated in, quite a bit of discussion regarding the reseating process and having to move to new seats. I don't recall anyone ever complaining about price increases. You're obviously welcome to prove me wrong but until then I think we'll have to agree to disagree.
You complained that “The AD came into my office and said that this would never happen again”. Supposedly that was when Chris Mack was Coach.
And the discussion thread was about the reconfiguration of Cintas with the need to increase revenue. Those two things are intertwined/related
You claimed that Greg Christopher lied to you.
I’ll claim that is a thing that never happened.
Sean Miller is making over $2 million less/year than Ed Cooley is making. Stating that an Athletic Director at a major University would say that something would never happen again is ludicrous on its face.
Sorry.
Anytime that there are physical changes to a venue, and a number of seats are eliminated or the location of seats is changed, someone is not going to be happy. When seat prices go up, someone is not going to be happy. In other words, you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people, any time. Someone is always going to be unhappy. The trick is to reduce the number of people that are unhappy down to the lowest level possible, while trying to make everyone happy, and realizing that you can’t. I don’t envy him that job.
I don't know anybody that is happy about it. If they are not happy, they must be either ambivalent or unhappy. That doesn't mean they don't understand or are willing to go through the process for the good of the program and the university in general.
